Beauty queen acting in movies: Just for fun!

Recently, many beauty queens have "flooded" into cinema and this has caused some controversy.

Miss Doan Thien An is attracting attention when participating in the movie "Cong Tu Bac Lieu" with the role of Bay Loan - a famous cai luong artist of the six provinces of Nam Ky.

Doan Thien An entered the film industry through the movie "Cong Tu Bac Lieu", the audience thought that she lacked charisma, her role was bland, lacked climax so she did not leave an impression in the movie. Doan Thien An said that she herself felt regretful because many of her passionate scenes were cut. According to the director's explanation, because he wanted to prioritize the main storyline of "Cong Tu Bac Lieu" which is the journey to find recognition of his position with his family, many of Doan Thien An's scenes had to be cut.

After being crowned Miss World Vietnam 2019, Luong Thuy Linh has continuously strived to prove herself as a talented beauty queen by diligently participating in many different roles such as model and MC at many entertainment events. In 2023, she expanded her career to the film industry with her first role in the movie "Chiem Dop". Luong Thuy Linh almost "shedded" her gentle, elegant image to transform into a girl with a confident and powerful appearance. In her first time acting in a movie, the beauty queen did not hesitate to try her hand at difficult roles that required acting skills.

However, the audience did not appreciate Luong Thuy Linh because of her unnatural acting. The scenes with the beauty queen were considered quite redundant in the overall film. Despite having a strong cast (Miu Le, Phuong Anh Dao...), this film had to leave theaters after a few weeks of release. The film also caused controversy because of its absurd script and many errors.

This is the third time Tieu Vy has appeared in the 2025 Tet film "The Four Guardians" (before that was "Jackpot Island: Tu Mau Thien Linh Cai" and then "Mai"). In both previous films, this beauty queen was not highly appreciated because her acting ability in terms of expression and portrayal of the character's psychology was still crude and immature.

Less praise, more controversy

The appearance of models and beauty queens in movies is also considered by many audiences as "mobile flower vases". That is also reasonable when in fact, many film projects invite famous beauties to participate as a "commercial trick" to attract audiences rather than their acting ability.

Miss Grand International 2021 Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien received many compliments when participating in the movie "Linh Mieu: Quy nhap trang". Although it was her first time in cinema, Thuy Tien's performance received many positive responses in terms of acting. Although Thuy Tien's dialogue was limited, her emotional portrayal of the character was considered good.

Miss H'Hen Nie has also tried her hand at movies. The movie that the beauty debuted in was called "578: The Madman's Bullet" in 2022. In the movie, H'Hen Nie plays the role of Bao Vy - who always silently stands by the male lead. She has a strong personality, is good at martial arts, and knows how to drive containers and large displacement motorbikes. The beauty queen has extremely eye-catching fighting scenes. To transform into the character, she participated in a training course for several months with a Korean martial arts expert, causing her body to be severely injured.

However, Miss H'Hen Nie's role was only praised for the fighting scenes. As for her acting, she was criticized for her "stiff" acting, her dialogue was like reading, and her lack of emotion. Her film was withdrawn from all domestic theaters after 2 weeks of release due to lack of audience. After the first failure in film, even though it has been 2 years, H'Hen Nie still has not shown any intention of trying her hand at acting.

It will not be until the first day of Lunar New Year 2025 that the audience will be able to make their judgments about the acting of Miss Tieu Vy and Ky Duyen in the movie "The Four Guardians" by Tran Thanh. Tran Thanh shared, "When choosing Tieu Vy, I thought it was a reckless decision. There would be a lot of work for her on set. But when filming, she did more than I thought. I want the audience to have a new perspective on Tieu Vy. She is not just a beauty queen, she can do much more than that."
