On June 19th, the authorities of Ngoc Lap commune (Yen Lap district, Phu Tho province ) announced that they are coordinating with relevant agencies to clarify the cause of the serious land subsidence at a house in the Ba Dan 2 area of the commune.
According to Mr. Dinh Xuan Hon, Chairman of the Ngoc Lap Commune People's Committee, the subsidence is still ongoing, so authorities have to cordon off the area around the houses and issue warning signs about the danger.
The sinkhole caused Mr. Hung's house to collapse and crack.
According to reports, the subsidence of the ground caused cracks and walls to collapse in the single-story house of Mr. Nguyen Van Hung and Ms. Dinh Thi Kieu Xuan. A large hole, about 3-4 meters deep, appeared in the front yard.
Mr. Hung said that the subsidence occurred around 1 AM on June 18th after a few crackling noises. By morning, seeing cracks and collapses in his house walls, he immediately reported it to the authorities for assistance.
The subsidence area was identified within a radius of 20 meters, covering a flat area of approximately 5,000 square meters.
A sinkhole has appeared in a resident's yard.
According to the leaders of Ngoc Lap commune, there have been no construction or renovation projects around Mr. Hung's house recently. There used to be a quarry in the area, but it has been inactive for nearly a decade.
" Mr. Hung's family is temporarily staying at his brother's house. We are reminding people to limit travel near the subsidence area, and we are quickly investigating the cause ," said the Chairman of Ngoc Lap commune.
