Speaking at the Forum, Mr. Vu Quang Hung - Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategy and Policy Research on Industry and Trade (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that in the context of the world facing many changes and challenges, promoting the connection of supply and demand is not only a way to promote economic development but also a necessary direction to build a strong economy, meet market needs and ensure sustainable prosperity for the future. The connection of supply and demand helps optimize resources, encourage innovation and product development, as well as create opportunities for cooperation and enhance competition.
The forum "Promoting effective supply-demand matching" helps optimize the use of production resources, thereby creating higher economic efficiency and minimizing waste; promoting innovation in the way businesses and industries connect with each other, leading to the development of new products and services and improving Vietnam's competitiveness in the international market.
At the same time, it plays an important role in building an economic support system and policies to effectively promote the connection between supply and demand, thereby helping businesses and industries develop sustainably; and by optimizing the economic structure and strengthening the connection between supply and demand, the program has the potential to create new growth drivers for the Vietnamese economy, helping to ensure stability and development in the future.
Sharing at the Forum, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of the Center for E-commerce Development (ECD), shared important information about the development of Vietnam's e-commerce market and the challenges it is facing.
In recent times, e-commerce in Vietnam has witnessed rapid growth, with the breakthrough of platforms such as Shopee, Tiki, Lazada... Specifically, in Vietnam, the scale of the retail e-commerce industry has grown by 20%, from 13.7 billion USD in 2021 to about 16.4 billion USD in 2022, with 57-60 million consumers shopping online in the past year (according to the Vietnam E-commerce White Book 2022).
The proportion of B2C e-commerce revenue compared to total retail sales of consumer goods and services nationwide reached 7.2% - 7.8%, double that of 5 years ago. With this growth rate, Vietnam is ranked by eMarketer as one of the 5 countries with the highest e-commerce growth rate in the world, creating momentum for economic development and leading digital transformation in businesses.
However, with such a growth rate, one of the important challenges is management capacity. Mr. Thanh clearly stated that transparency in e-commerce management needs to be improved to build trust with consumers. "Consumers are increasingly paying attention to green, clean and environmentally friendly products. This poses a big challenge for e-commerce businesses to adapt and meet this demand," Mr. Thanh emphasized.
According to Mr. Thanh, platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, and Tiki have begun to form a sustainable commercial ecosystem, from platform building, shipping to online payment, which helps simplify the shopping process for consumers.
Vietnam’s e-commerce market is also facing many challenges, from counterfeit goods to intellectual property violations. In addition, the imbalance in the e-commerce market between urban and rural areas makes the market uneven.
"Currently, online sales businesses are mainly concentrated in two major cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. These two cities account for about 70% of the online retail population nationwide, while the remaining 61 provinces and cities account for less than 30%, which is a very small proportion. This makes the market between provinces and cities currently unbalanced," Mr. Thanh shared.
Mr. Thanh proposed specific measures such as improving policies and regulations, reducing order processing costs, and raising awareness of buyers and sellers to ensure sustainable development for Vietnam's e-commerce.
At the Forum, Mr. Thanh mentioned the challenges of origin and language in e-commerce. Ensuring the origin of products and making them suitable for local consumers’ tastes are important keys to overcoming these barriers. He suggested that businesses should grasp the specific needs of the local market and take advantage of local languages to create closeness and trust.
According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hung - General Secretary of the Vietnam Banking Association, one of the effective solutions to connect credit supply and demand is to promote the connection between banks and enterprises. The relationship between banks and enterprises is symbiotic, solving difficulties for enterprises is also solving difficulties for banks. In recent times, not only enterprises seek banks, but banks have proactively sought and connected with enterprises to grasp the difficulties and obstacles in production and business of enterprises, thereby having appropriate credit policies.
The issue of accessing credit capital and promoting the connection between credit supply and demand is an important content that the banking industry needs to continue to implement from now until the end of the year to help businesses both solve difficulties caused by the double impact of the world economy and overcome the inherent limitations of the businesses themselves; to create synchronization and connection between supply and demand to create momentum for economic growth recovery, there needs to be a harmonious combination of fiscal policy and monetary policy.
At the Forum, delegates shared and discussed the following contents: Application of e-commerce in supply-demand connection activities; promoting trade promotion, increasing the recognition of Vietnamese goods; promoting the effectiveness of credit supply-demand connection to create momentum for economic growth recovery; opportunities and challenges in promoting supply-demand connection; Solutions for businesses to cope with difficulties and take advantage of opportunities in the coming time...
