CIA declassified files say Christian relic Ark of the Covenant found

The millennia-old mystery of the whereabouts of the Ark of the Covenant, a Christian relic, may have been solved, based on information from declassified documents of the US Federal Intelligence Agency (CIA).

According to the Christian Bible, the Ark of the Covenant (also known as the Ark of the Covenant or Ark of the Testimony) is believed to have been built by the Israelites at God's command shortly after the Jews left Egypt around the 13th century BC. The Ark contained two tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments, symbolizing God's presence guiding his people.

Some historians believe that the Ark of the Covenant was originally kept inside the holiest room of the Jerusalem temple before disappearing around 586 BCE. Others believe that the relic ended up in Ethiopia, where local records show it hidden inside a church.

However, to date there has been no evidence to show the actual location of the Ark of the Covenant.

Now, a declassified CIA file suggests that US intelligence may have found the relic in 1988.

The psychic program

During the 1970s and 1980s, the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) recruited psychics with alleged psychic abilities to investigate paranormal phenomena.

Project Sun Streak was among the programs that searched remotely and used psychics to gather information about specific locations or objects.

During a sweep on December 5, 1988, a psychic known only as "032" was assigned to identify a mysterious target.

And what they "saw" was impressive.

Is the Ark of the Covenant in the Middle East?

“The target was a barrel. Inside was another barrel,” the file reads. “The target was made of wood, gold, silver, and decorated [with six-winged angels].

The psychic also said the target was shaped like a coffin and was located somewhere in the Middle East, in an Arabic-speaking area.

Although the psychic was not told that he was tasked with finding the Ark of the Covenant, his description matched the details of the Christian treasure perfectly.

The Bible records that the Ark of the Covenant was built around 1445 BC.

"The purpose is to bring people together. It is about ritual, memory, reverence and resurrection. There is an aspect of spirituality, news, lessons and historical knowledge that is beyond what we currently know," according to the document.

The psychic also said that the target was protected and only the right person could open it.
