Dau Tieng Lake is a particularly important project related to national security, started construction in 1981 and completed in 1985. With a capacity of up to 1.58 billion cubic meters of water, the lake not only ensures irrigation water for hundreds of thousands of hectares of agricultural land in neighboring provinces and cities, but also plays a role in flood regulation, ensuring dam and downstream safety, improving the ecological environment, and providing domestic water for millions of people in the area.

Mr. Tran Quang Hung - General Director of Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited shared that over the past 40 years, Dau Tieng Lake has gone through many stages of development, promoting the effectiveness of multi-purpose exploitation of the value of various types of irrigation products and services.

The irrigation lake was built after the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. The initial purpose was mainly to serve agricultural irrigation, but over time, the role and tasks of the lake have increasingly expanded.

Over the past 40 years, with the attention, investment and management of the Central and the province, Dau Tieng Lake, from its initial goal of only serving agriculture, is now a multi-purpose irrigation project.

In addition to providing water for agricultural production, daily life and industry, with a large water surface area of ​​27,000 hectares, the potential and advantages of the semi-flooded land are favorable for the development of aquaculture, solar power farms, eco-tourism and resorts, and waterway transportation to serve the socio -economic development of localities in the Southeast region.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , provinces and cities in the benefiting area have paid attention to investing in repairing, upgrading and maintaining the system of works to ensure operational functions.

In addition, the units also focus on solutions for sustainable development of land and water resources such as promoting the planting of upstream and lakeside forests on semi-flooded land to increase coverage, reduce erosion and flood flow, increase low flow, and build pumping stations to optimize the efficiency of water exploitation and use.

Thanks to these efforts, Dau Tieng Lake not only contributes to the socio-economic development of the Southeast region but also becomes an attractive eco-tourism destination, contributing to improving the lives of local people.

Mr. Tran Quang Hung - General Director of the Company said that the unit will advise the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to closely coordinate with localities in the lakeside area to manage and plan activities, implement projects to effectively exploit irrigation infrastructure from the normal water level of 24.4m or lower to develop various types of irrigation products and services (water supply, semi-flooded forestation, natural aquaculture, development of eco-tourism, entertainment, resorts, solar power farms, etc.) to create revenue for the company to reduce the annual State budget support through joint ventures, investment cooperation and profit sharing.

In addition, the company enhances the effectiveness of water resource management such as promoting the application of technology in management, monitoring and regulating lake water levels scientifically, minimizing loss and ensuring stable, economical and effective water supply for localities.

And the important thing to develop and exploit the potential of Dau Tieng Lake sustainably is the work of protecting the environment and ecosystem. The Company promotes the implementation of measures to plant and protect upstream forests, semi-flooded areas, control activities in the lake, strictly handle violations to ensure the water environment, especially waste discharge activities, sustainable development of the ecosystem and lake; coordinate with localities to handle waste and water pollution.
