PAST PERFECT
The Vietnamese team has won the Philippines in the last 5 confrontations and those were all victories with a certain difference in the game. The common point of these victories is that we often play with a low formation, giving the opponent the right to control the ball, then actively defend and start pressing fiercely from the middle of the field to win the ball to counterattack and then attack directly. In fact, the Philippine team has many quality players, some of whom are playing in Europe, but they are not a collective with a cohesive playing style with smooth, coordinated moves.

The strength of the Philippines comes from the ability and brilliance of its stars. The tight-knit Vietnamese team under coach Toshiya Miura or the cohesive, undefeated team in Southeast Asia under coach Park easily separated the Philippine stars, broke up the opponents' attacks easily and took advantage of fast, precise attacks. The Philippine defense, which inherently lacked outstanding players, was often at a disadvantage when facing the speedy strikers of Vietnam and was quickly defeated. In total, in the last five confrontations, we won all of them with a record of scoring 12 goals against the opponent and conceding only 5 goals.
NEED TO QUICKLY PERFECT THE BALL CONTROL PLAYING STYLE
In the past 6 friendly matches, coach Philippe Troussier is still trying to get the Vietnamese team to operate a ball control and proactive attack style. There are matches where we did well, for example the victory against Syria, the second half of the match against Palestine. But there are also times when Hoang Duc and his teammates only did well at certain times, such as the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half of the match against China. In other experiments such as against Uzbekistan or Korea, the ball control system fell apart and failed completely.
Overall, it must be frankly admitted that Coach Troussier's students have made progress in receiving, learning and practicing the playing philosophy from their teacher. When facing not too much pressure, the Vietnamese defense and the central midfielders have also boldly coordinated and circulated the ball confidently and smoothly in the home field. There were also times when we controlled the ball for nearly 2 minutes at the end of the first half of the match against the Chinese team. However, most of us have only made horizontal passes and back passes to stretch and drag the opponent's defense system. There have not been any high-impact cross-line passes. The attacking players have not been confident in moving into the gaps in front of the opponent's defense, behind the opponent's central midfielders to receive the ball and turn to attack in the middle.
Hung Dung fiercely argued with the Filipino player
Tuan Anh (13) in the victory over the Philippines late last year
Our midfield players like Tuan Anh - Hung Dung are still too perfectionist, often passing back. In the match against China, Tuan Anh had only one situation where he faked a move to turn the ball up to attack and immediately created a dangerous situation. Perhaps players need to observe and learn from the young and good attacking midfielders in the world at the moment like Musiala (Bayern Munich), Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) or Bellingham (Real Madrid), to see how well they handle the ball. In addition, the movement of strikers like Hoang Duc - Tien Linh should also refer to how Son Heung-min "tortured" the Vietnamese defense in the recent friendly match. The Korean star does not retreat too deep to create like Hoang Duc, but often just pulls back to the space behind the opponent's defensive midfielder, receives the ball and immediately turns and attacks directly at the Vietnamese goal with dangerous breakthroughs or central wall passes.
In the first days of the FIFA Days in November, Coach Troussier is still letting his players practice passing, controlling the ball, controlling the ball and coordinating quite a lot. But perhaps it is time for the coaching staff to go into detail with sharp cuts of expertise. Because November 16 is the first battle, not just learning, friendly, testing anymore. It is a long journey with 6 matches, but to overcome it we need to have a specific strategy and winning 3 points against the host team Philippines is almost a mandatory task, before thinking about more difficult opponents like Indonesia or Iraq.
