Coach Thomas Tuchel reaches agreement to lead England team

England terminated the contract with coach Gareth Southgate in July after the "Three Lions" dropped the Euro 2024 championship with a 1-2 loss to Spain on July 15. Lee Carsley then became the interim coach of the England team and was assigned to 6 matches in the 2024-2025 Nations League group stage.

According to Sky Sports, Tuchel will start working from January 1, 2025. This means that interim coach Lee Carsley will continue to lead the England team in the UEFA Nations League matches against Greece on November 14 and Ireland on November 17 during the FIFA Days at the end of 2024.

Coach Tuchel has long been targeted by the English Football Association (FA) as a potential candidate to replace his predecessor Gareth Southgate. The FA also targeted coach Pep Guardiola but the Spanish strategist has not yet had an answer, most likely he will stay at the Etihad team for another year.

Coach Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 as head coach. He also has a lot of experience in leading top European teams such as Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and most recently Bayern Munich.

Thomas Tuchel met many of the criteria set by the England team when he won 11 major titles, including the Champions League, European Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea, two Ligue 1, two French Super Cups, one French Cup, one French League Cup with PSG, German Cup with Dortmund and Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.

The 51-year-old coach is also a free agent after leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season, helping the negotiation process with the FA go smoothly.

The German coach also knows Harry Kane very well, as the England captain played under Tuchel when he was in charge of Bayern Munich. Kane scored 44 goals in 45 games under Tuchel, and the striker praised him as a great coach.

"To be honest, he is a great coach and a very experienced person. However, I am also surprised by Tuchel's decision. Let's wait and see how Tuchel will perform in his new role," Kane told the press when asked about Tuchel's negotiations with the FA.
