(Dan Tri) - After defeating the Philippines to reach the final, coach Masatada Ishii (Japanese) announced that he and Thailand will defeat the Vietnamese team in the 2024 AFF Cup championship match.
Thailand won 3-1 against Philippines
Thailand had a dramatic 3-1 victory over the Philippines in the second leg of the semi-final last night (December 30), at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok (Thailand). In the end, the team from the Land of the Golden Temples won 4-3 after two semi-final matches.

After reaching the final, coach Masatada Ishii said: "I told the players that the Thai team would win all eight of their matches in this year's tournament. However, we could not do that (Thailand lost 1-2 to the Philippines in the first leg of the semi-final)."
"Right now, our goal is to beat the Vietnamese team in the remaining two matches of the tournament (first leg final and second leg final) to win the AFF Cup championship.
First, we will try to beat the Vietnamese team in the first leg on the opponent's field. After that, the Thai team will continue to prepare for the second leg at home," the Japanese coach added.
The paths to the finals of Vietnam and Thailand were not the same. Vietnam won a resounding victory over Singapore in both semi-final matches with a total score of 5-1. Meanwhile, Thailand had a much harder time against the Philippines in the semi-final.

In the second leg of the semi-final, the Thai team needed extra time and a late goal from Suphanat Mueanta in the 116th minute to qualify for the final.
Coach Masatada Ishii praised the Thai players: "The key to our victory in the semi-finals was that we united as one unit. The players played very hard throughout the 120 minutes of play."
"The Thai fans are also great, they cheered for us enthusiastically, motivating the Thai team to win.
I hope fans will come to Rajamangala Stadium to watch the second leg of the final between Thailand and Vietnam. On that day, we will win and give our fans a New Year's gift," coach Masatada Ishii declared.
The first leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final between Vietnam and Thailand will take place at 8:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025, at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho). The second leg of the final will take place at 8:00 p.m. on January 5, 2025, at Thailand's Rajamangala Stadium.
