However, in the second half, Thailand played explosively to win and advance.
Thailand 4-2 Singapore
At the post-match press conference, Thailand national team coach Masatada Ishii revealed his instructions to his players during halftime.
"At first, I was shocked and surprised when Thailand was behind by 2 goals. Those were beautiful and wonderful goals. After conceding 2 goals, during the half-time break, we reviewed the video and analyzed the gameplay. Our attacking style of play was quite good in many situations, so we continued to maintain it in the second half," said coach Masatada Ishii.
“On the defensive side, Singapore made long passes past the Thai defence, so I told the players to be careful with that. I have to praise the players for supporting each other throughout the match. After falling behind, we equalised and then won,” the Japanese coach affirmed.
Meanwhile, coach Tsutomu Ogura was somewhat regretful when the Singapore national team did not win despite having an early lead.
"The first half of this match was the first time I was able to show the fans the real Singapore style of play since I took over the team. It was probably Singapore's best 45 minutes. But unfortunately, in the last 2 or 3 minutes of the first half, we conceded a goal. And the same thing happened in the first 5 minutes of the second half," coach Tsutomu Ogura declared.
Mr. Tsutomu Ogura said that the Singapore team lost confidence in the second half: " The Thai team attacked more strongly and perhaps we were a bit scared. Especially in the last minutes of the match, we gradually lost confidence when facing the opponent. The Singapore team needs to improve in this aspect. We need to be stronger mentally."
Coach Ogura said he would return to the hotel to start analyzing his next opponent. According to the schedule, Singapore will play Malaysia in the final match of the group stage on December 20. Meanwhile, Thailand will host Cambodia at home.
