(Dan Tri) - Coach Gareth Southgate sent an emotional message to the England team before the Euro 2024 final against Spain early tomorrow morning (02:00 July 15, Vietnam time).
"I don't believe in fairy tales but I believe in dreams. We have a big dream but we have to make it happen," said coach Gareth Southgate ahead of the historic final between England and Spain at the Olympic Stadium (Berlin, Germany). "Fate, the late goals we scored, the penalties, don't mean this is our moment. We have to make it happen tomorrow. It's all in our hands and our performance is the most important thing.", said coach Southgate. Coach Southgate called on England players to be brave to win the Euro 2024 final (Photo: Getty). This is the second consecutive time the English strategist has helped the Three Lions reach the Euro final, when England previously lost to Italy in a penalty shootout in the Euro 2024 final three years ago. England have not won a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup. So Southgate stressed: "We have to win this trophy to gain the respect of the rest of the football world. I was there as a fan at the World Cup and the Euros before I became England manager. Most of the big matches were broadcast by the TV stations, not England. They only showed the finals and the big matches. We had high expectations but our performance was not commensurate. Now we are in the Euro 2024 final. Tomorrow, I am no longer afraid of what can happen because I have experienced everything. I want the players to have that courage. If we are not afraid of losing, we will have a higher chance of winning." Providing an update on the team's fitness ahead of the upcoming match, Southgate continued: "The team is in good shape. That's good news. We're excited to face this challenge tomorrow. It's clear that the team has improved and shown a lot of resilience. We've shown that throughout the tournament this year. I've seen the team very dedicated, working very hard. We're in a good frame of mind to aim for the highest goal tomorrow." Southgate is the third coach in history to help his country reach two consecutive Euro finals, after Helmut Schon with Germany (1972, 1976) and Berti Vogts with Germany (1992, 1996). Notably, the two former coaches have never lost two consecutive Euro finals and England fans expect this to be true for Southgate. The Opta supercomputer rates England's chances of successfully winning Euro 2024 at 28.5%, while Spain are rated higher at 40.7%.
