Coach Luciano Spalletti praises Italian players, ready to face Switzerland

The 1-1 result was enough for the Italian team to win a ticket to the Euro 2024 round of 16 against Switzerland. Coach Luciano Spalletti said the equalizer in the 98th minute against Croatia was deserved and reflected the technicality of the match.

"We deserved this result, considering what we showed in the game. Sometimes we made individual mistakes but the important thing was the spirit of the players did not give up and they were rewarded accordingly.

"It was a tough journey for Italy to get through this group. Spain were excellent, Croatia were excellent. We didn't perform well in the first half because we felt the pressure because of the importance of the match," the Italy coach shared.

Coach Luciano Spalletti also particularly emphasized the importance of substitute players and said that excellent qualities and a responsible attitude will be the key to Italy's success at Euro this year.

"The players who came off the bench were fantastic, the players who played in the last 10 minutes were very important. They kept that form despite the fact that we were playing very aggressively.

"We knew we couldn't concede a second or third goal, but we still chose to play aggressively. I think in the upcoming match against Switzerland my players need to improve their physical condition and try to eliminate unnecessary individual mistakes," said coach Spalletti.

The Italian team finished the Euro 2024 group stage in second place in Group B and will face Switzerland in the round of 16 at 11:00 p.m. on June 29 in Berlin (Germany).
