The Vietnamese team in the first tournament (Asian Cup) and the last (AFF Cup) in 2024 have a clear difference in strength. Coach Kim Sang-sik is steadfast in his view of short-term priority for the national team's personnel. This has caused many familiar factors under his predecessor Philippe Troussier to be eliminated.
Under coach Troussier, the Vietnamese team gave many U23 players a chance. Mr. Kim Sang-sik still called up and tested some of them, but in the end, only Khuat Van Khang and Bui Vi Hao remained.

The Vietnamese team participating in the AFF Cup (ASEAN Cup) 2024 has only 3 players under 23 years old (Tran Trung Kien, Khuat Van Khang, Bui Vi Hao. The number of players who have never played for the national team is also 3 (Tran Trung Kien, Doan Ngoc Tan, Nguyen Xuan Son). The Vietnamese team prioritizes options that can be used immediately, not "saving" for 2-3 years later.
