Coach Kim Sang Sik faces MU

(PLVN) - Coach Kim Sang-sik will lead the "Southeast Asian Stars" team to compete with Manchester United Club.

The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) officially announced that Mr. Kim Sang-sik - Head Coach of the Vietnam national team, the current Southeast Asian Champion, will lead the "ASEAN All-Stars" team at the Maybank Challenge Cup.

This historic international friendly match against Manchester United, scheduled to take place on 28 May 2025 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Malaysia, is more than just a football match, it is an event that celebrates leadership, regional pride and unity through sport.

After leading the Vietnam National Team to an absolute victory and championship at the Mitsubishi Electric ASEAN Cup 2024, his appointment to lead the ASEAN All-Stars Team is a testament to the excellence and trust he has built in the football community.

“It is a great honor to lead the best players from all ASEAN countries in a match of such importance,” said head coach Kim Sang-sik after receiving the honor. “We are not only representing our countries, but also showing the world the pride, spirit and strength of our region.”

AFF President, Lieutenant General Khiev Sameth, commented: “Coach Kim Sang-sik is a symbol of progress and professionalism. His leadership will inspire not only the players in the team, but also a whole generation of players and fans.”

Not only that, this match has a deeper purpose, which is the fundraising initiative to support Al-Sultan Abdullah (YASA), a prestigious charity in Malaysia. This underlines AFF’s commitment to creating a positive impact off the pitch.

“This match is a source of pride for our region and a testament to the fact that football can truly make a difference in lives,” AFF President Khiev Sameth stressed.

The ASEAN All-Stars team will comprise top players selected from all 12 AFF Member Associations, reflecting the diversity and collective strength of Southeast Asian football.
