On the afternoon of April 18 (local time), U.23 Vietnam returned to the training ground to prepare for the next match against U.23 Malaysia in Group D of the 2024 AFC U-23 Championship. This is also a "pivotal" match in the race for tickets to the next round for coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team.
In an interview before the match, midfielder Vo Hoang Minh Khoa said that U.23 Vietnam must learn from experience, especially avoiding tackles that can lead to penalties and red cards so as not to be disadvantaged when VAR is present at the U.23 Asian tournament.
In the opening match, center back Nguyen Ngoc Thang made a mistake when he pulled the U.23 Kuwait striker in the penalty area, causing U.23 Vietnam to be penalized, and the 21-year-old center back also received a red card.

"After the penalty card, I saw Ngoc Thang was very sad. The whole team sympathized with Thang and encouraged him to continue to practice hard, maintain good physical condition and spirit to prepare for the next stage. This is also what the whole team always encourages each other to be better every day," Minh Khoa affirmed.
Ngoc Thang's red card came from the referee's decision after the support of VAR technology. This is regrettable because before entering the tournament, Coach Hoang Anh Tuan had reminded and thoroughly informed the players about the implementation of VAR.
"Before the tournament, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and the coaching staff gave many instructions about the VAR issue. However, sometimes during the match, the players cannot avoid being caught up in situations that happen very quickly. From the mistakes, the whole team is aware that they need to develop themselves better, considering it a lesson," Minh Khoa said.
Playing very well in the opening match as a midfielder, Minh Khoa is becoming a reliable choice in the midfield. The Binh Duong Club player shared: "The first match is always difficult for every player. Luckily, the whole team had a good result against U.23 Kuwait. This helped the players relieve a lot of pressure.
After the match, the whole team had a happy atmosphere. We discussed the situations that happened during the match to gain experience and have better preparation for the upcoming match."
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan will meet with his students to review experiences and prepare for the match against U.23 Malaysia.
Regarding the goal for the next match with U.23 Malaysia, Minh Khoa said that the whole team is very focused and has a very high determination. "The whole team has overcome initial difficulties. We will try to maintain the positive things and strive to promote the best, aiming for the best result for the next match", Minh Khoa emphasized.
Having just finished a competition, coach Hoang Anh Tuan spent the whole morning letting the players relax and recover at the hotel.
During the afternoon training session, he also assigned fitness expert Brandi to focus on exercises to speed up the recovery process for the entire team. The group of players who played the entire match against U.23 Kuwait only stretched, jogged, and rested. The remaining group received additional technical and tactical training.
The coaching staff of U.23 Vietnam will hold a meeting to review the experience of the match against U.23 Kuwait and plan for the match against U.23 Malaysia. A victory will help coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team open the door to the quarterfinals.
