(Dan Tri) - Coach Dinh Hong Vinh expressed regret when U22 Vietnam was held to a draw by U22 China in a match in which his team deserved a better result.
"Today, U22 Vietnam had a good match against U22 China. Overall, we deserved a better result," coach Dinh Hong Vinh said at a press conference after the 1-1 draw between U22 Vietnam and U22 China in the final match of the friendly tournament in Yancheng (China) on the evening of March 25.
U22 Vietnam played confidently against the home team and opened the scoring thanks to Quoc Viet's goal in the 32nd minute. Coach Dinh Hong Vinh's team controlled the ball well and made U22 China stuck in finding a way into goalkeeper Van Binh's goal.

However, in the 69th minute, midfielder Hong Phuc carelessly cleared the ball, leading to a penalty for U22 Vietnam, helping U22 China equalize 1-1. In the 73rd minute, U22 Vietnam had the advantage of having one more player when Yixuan Zhang received a red card after a tackle on Thanh Nhan.
However, in the remaining minutes, U22 Vietnam still could not score a goal against the home team's deep defensive play, thereby accepting the third draw in the friendly tournament in China. This draw caused U22 Vietnam to only finish in 3rd place and regrettably lose the championship to U22 China.
"We proactively deployed our gameplay, organized a tight defense and executed transition situations well. The players followed the tactics, kept a reasonable team distance and created many dangerous opportunities.
Overall, we deserved a better result. However, the important thing is that the players showed progress and learned valuable lessons from this match," said coach Dinh Hong Vinh after his team's unfortunate draw.
Although he did not win the championship, coach Dinh Hong Vinh said that his young players have accumulated valuable experience to prepare for the U23 Asian qualifiers and SEA Games this year.
"This tournament helps the players gain more experience in international competition, especially how to deal with opponents with different physiques and playing styles. The players have improved their ability to control the match, maintain concentration and enhance coordination in the tactical system.
These experiences will be very important in the preparation for the upcoming U23 Asian qualifiers and SEA Games," said coach Dinh Hong Vinh.
The 1974-born coach also admitted that this friendly match was a useful experience for U22 Vietnam. "We have the opportunity to test the squad, evaluate the players' abilities and practice tactics in real competition conditions.
The players have shown progress through each match, especially in today's match, when they showed confidence and good control of the game. This will be an important premise for the whole team to continue to develop and aim for big goals ahead," Coach Dinh Hong Vinh concluded.
