Croatian coach praises Vietnamese players for being diligent and eager to learn

On the evening of April 19, Thanh Hoa Club won a resounding 3-1 victory over The Cong - Viettel at home, within the framework of round 19 of LPBank V-League 2024 - 2025.

The Cong - Viettel opened the score first thanks to Pedro Henrique in the 14th minute. But then Thanh Hoa Club played resolutely and Lucas Ribamar shone with a hat-trick in the 36th (penalty), 53rd and 68th minutes.

At the post-match press conference, coach Tomislav Steinbruckner had many compliments for Thanh Hoa Club players and Vietnam in general.

He said: "After a month working in V-League, I have faced many teams from the top to the bottom.

The common point is that the teams have quality foreign players and similar domestic players.

What impressed me was that the Vietnamese players all showed great determination to compete, entering the field with 100% ability.

Apart from Thanh Hoa Club, I have not yet grasped all the players in V-League, but to compare with Malaysia where I used to work. Vietnamese players always have a thirst, work hard, diligently and are eager to learn.

Malaysia also has quality players but there are still differences, unlike Vietnamese players."

Evaluating his first victory after one month of taking charge at Thanh Hoa Club, the Croatian coach said:

"Three full points mean a lot to the team. This match also gives me more perspective to improve the team's playing style in the future. The whole team performed well in the last minutes of the two halves.

This is the team's first win in 2025. Hopefully this will give the players confidence to compete.

My philosophy is a bit different from my predecessor (Velizar Popov - PV). I prefer to play from the back, but sometimes I need long balls. I really like possession-based play, but I need tactical variety.

I still haven't found the most satisfactory lineup at Thanh Hoa Club. I'm calculating how before the last 2 rounds, I will find the most satisfactory players and lineup. However, the whole team is still trying very hard in training."

Before the match with The Cong - Viettel, Thanh Hoa Club had a streak of 13 matches without a win in all competitions, causing them to drop from the top of the table to 5th place in the V-League rankings after 18 rounds.

And with the victory, coach Tomislav Steinbruckner and his team ended a 13-match winless streak, rising to 3rd place on the rankings with 30 points, equal to The Cong - Viettel but with a better goal difference (+7 compared to +5), and 4 and 5 points respectively behind the two teams ranked right above, Hanoi Club and Nam Dinh Club.
