On February 19, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi organized a conference to provide social feedback on the draft project on management, exploitation and temporary use of part of the roadway and sidewalks in Hanoi.

At the discussion, a group of experts from the Hanoi Department of Construction said that in the capital city, there are currently 273 streets eligible to temporarily use part of the sidewalk for business development and vehicle parking.

Chua Boc Street (Dong Da District) is on the list of roads and streets that meet the conditions for piloting sidewalk rental for business. According to the survey project data, the width of most sidewalks along the road is about 5m, with a few sections narrowing to 1.2-2m.

Currently, most of the sidewalk area is used by businesses to display goods or as parking for customers.

According to the project, sidewalks that allow business must have sidewalks at least 3m wide (except for special cases in the Old Quarter area in Hoan Kiem district); sidewalk width must be 3m or more to accommodate pedestrians of 1.5m, and technical infrastructure must be arranged, partly for business and vehicle parking.

In Hai Ba Trung district, the People's Committee of the district has assigned the District Steering Committee 197 to review and synthesize. Thereby, it proposed that Lo Duc street sidewalk ensure the width and current condition of the sidewalk.

Lo Duc Street (Hai Ba Trung District) is bustling with dense business establishments.

In the case where a business household does not have a parking space for guests, it can be considered when ensuring one of the following requirements: the distance from the business location to the nearest parking lot is not greater than 500m; the distance from the business location to the nearest train station or public bus station is not greater than 500m.

Nguyen Van Tuyet Street (Dong Da District) also meets the criteria for temporarily using part of the sidewalk to develop business and watch over vehicles.

Trang Tien Street (Hoan Kiem District) with its unique architecture is located in a prime location in Hanoi. According to survey data, the sidewalk here is about 3.6m wide.

Previously in 2021, Hoan Kiem district piloted sidewalk rental for business at 4 locations with the purpose of introducing and promoting products, mainly coffee, drinks, and fast food.

The sidewalk area on Ly Thuong Kiet Street (next to 30A Ly Thuong Kiet building) is rented out as a coffee shop and is still operating normally after many years. The sidewalk for pedestrians is relatively wide and airy.

At 94 Ly Thuong Kiet, the sidewalk is currently being rented out for soft drink and fast food businesses. Part of the sidewalk area in this area has become a parking lot, reducing the space for pedestrians.

The sidewalk area at 15 Ngo Quyen is located next to the Metropole Hotel, a beverage stall serving mainly guests inside the hotel.

The fee for temporary use of a part of the sidewalk for vehicle parking or business is determined according to Resolution No. 6 dated July 7, 2020 of the City People's Council, from 20,000-40,000 VND/m2/month.
