The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has announced the benchmark scores for grade 10. This year, Doan Ket High School surprised many people when the benchmark score was only 23.75 points, while last year it was 40 points.

Thus, the admission score of Doan Ket High School in 2024 decreased by 16.25 points compared to last year. This information is surprising because the school's admission score in recent years has always been in the top two in the city, fluctuating between 39-40 points; even the third choice sometimes reached 42 points.

Many parents are worried that the sharp drop in benchmark scores will affect the quality of input. In addition, uneven input makes it difficult for teachers to teach.

Speaking to VietNamNet , Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hai - Principal of Doan Ket High School said: "In the school's enrollment history, there has never been a year where scores have dropped as much as this year. However, there is no need to worry because if parents understand the nature, they will have an objective assessment of the school's true value."

Ms. Hai said that last year the school's benchmark score for the first choice (NV1) was 40 points, NV2 was 41 points and NV3 was 42 points. This score is among the highest in the city.

This year, many students want to enter the school but are hesitant. In particular, candidates who want a high level of "safety" will consider and not dare to "put pen to paper". Therefore, the rate of students registering for the school is much lower than the assigned quota, leading to a sharp decrease in the standard score.

"I think this year's benchmark score is a worthy gift for the brave students who applied to the school," said the female principal.

According to Ms. Hai, the school's statistics show that most of the candidates admitted in 2024 had quite high scores; only one student was admitted with 23.75 points.

"We are not too concerned about quality because teachers will have to have a plan to care for students with lower benchmark scores than others to motivate them to try harder and keep up with their peers. Teachers will also have the opportunity to care for students more, so parents can rest assured," said Ms. Hai.

This year, the benchmark scores at some schools in Hanoi also surprised parents and students. Specifically, Chu Van An High School, which has held the highest position for many consecutive years, this year, has the same benchmark scores as Yen Hoa High School and Le Quy Don High School - Ha Dong.

Ranked 4th is Thang Long High School with 42.25 points. The remaining schools in the top 10 with scores below 42 include Phan Dinh Phung, Kim Lien, Nguyen Giao Thieu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Viet Duc and Nhan Chinh.
