The 18th Conference of Rectors of Southeast Asian Teacher Training Universities (AsTEN) took place today, December 13, in Ho Chi Minh City, chaired by Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), and President of AsTEN.

The conference brings together leaders and managers from leading teacher training universities in Southeast Asia to discuss and share experiences, promoting international cooperation in the fields of educational science and teacher training.
This is also an opportunity to promote international cooperation programs, improve educational capacity and train teachers to meet the lifelong learning needs of society.
According to Professor Phuong Lan, this year's conference has special significance as it marks the 10th anniversary of effective cooperation within the AsTEN network.
“Over the past 10 years, we have promoted the exchange of knowledge and best practices, working together to address important issues to improve the quality of teacher education and sustainable education development in Southeast Asia,” Ms. Lan shared.
According to Professor Fuad Abdul Hamied - Executive Director of ATQA, Indonesian University of Education, in 2024, AsTEN's main activity will focus on promoting the quality of teacher training through activities such as workshops, practice sharing conferences and accreditation programs.
Conducted accreditation of many training programs, including the first phase of 5 programs and the second phase of 6 programs, emphasizing the improvement of the capacity of the assessment team.
Ensure transparency and close cooperation between accredited programs and stakeholders.
At the same time, members are encouraged to choose at least one training program from their school to be accredited by ADKA, thereby enhancing the prestige and educational standards in the region.
"We have spent a lot of time and energy, but it is important that all AsTEN members participate and promote this accreditation process. Funding is not the issue, the important thing is how to meet the requirements of international recognition," emphasized Professor Fuad Abdul Hamied.

Changing to meet the urgent demands of the digital age
Speaking at the conference, Professor Phuong Lan said: "In an increasingly dynamic global context, it is imperative to equip educators with the skills, knowledge and resilience needed to adapt to changing needs, ensuring that our education system remains relevant, inclusive and forward-thinking."
At the conference, delegates discussed the results of research cooperation projects, AsTEN teacher training quality assurance activities, AsTEN's action strategies to improve quality, develop expertise and internationalize education to meet new requirements in the context of education 4.0;
Advanced teaching methods and educational innovation to suit the dramatic changes of the digital age.
This is an opportunity to connect, promote cooperation and academic exchange among member countries, thereby contributing to improving the quality of education, spreading advanced pedagogical methods and effectively applying technology in education.
Digital Age Education Trends
Within the framework of this conference, the 6th AsTEN international conference with the theme "Methods and approaches to education in the digital age: New educational trends and international experiences" will also take place at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) on December 14.
The workshop focused on core issues of modern education, including: Developing 21st century skills for students;
Application of artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology in teaching; Blended Learning and new generation classroom design; Sustainable education and social responsibility through community service learning.
