Arriving at Ta Duong village in early November 2024, we were taken by Mr. Jaghe Hoang Tho, a prestigious person and Head of the Village Management Board, to visit and inquire about the business of the villagers. While traveling, Mr. Hoang Tho discussed the production and living conditions of the Raglay people in the locality. According to Mr. Hoang Tho, the construction of this spacious cement concrete road in the village was possible thanks to the State's support in investing in construction costs, and the people's contributions and land donations to widen the road. The villagers joined hands to contribute funds to install 22 more solar-powered lights to light up the village roads.

Ta Duong is a particularly difficult village in Ninh Phuoc district, Ninh Thuan province. The whole village currently has 153 households, with 669 Raglay people. People's lives depend on income from 61 hectares of rice fields, proactive irrigation water from the Nam canal system and 100 hectares of upland fields, combined with raising 450 cows and 100 sheep. Since the National Target Program 1719 was implemented in Ninh Thuan province, the Raglay people in Ta Duong village have benefited from many component projects of the Program.

For example, from the capital of Project 3 - Developing sustainable agricultural and forestry production, promoting the potential and strengths of regions to produce goods according to the value chain, in June 2023, 21 poor households in Ta Duong village received 344 million VND from the State to buy breeding cows for breeding. People contributed an additional 52.5 million VND to build barns. Specifically, each poor household received 16.4 million VND from the State to buy breeding cows, and the family contributed 2.5 million VND to buy roofing sheets for barns.

Also in 2023, Ta Duong village has 38 poor households receiving 380 million VND in support from the National Target Program 1719 to change their jobs under Project 1. The villagers agreed that each family would buy a breeding cow, connect related households to build a common barn, and divide the labor to take turns grazing on the natural grasslands around the village. The families converted ineffective rice fields to grass fields to provide green food, supplementing the livestock.

Farmers who received capital support for cattle raising from the National Target Program 1719 have actively participated in training courses on techniques for raising horned cattle, disease prevention measures and calf care skills. In particular, the cattle raising model also received the accompaniment and technical support of Mr. Van Ngoc Le, a veterinary officer of Phuoc Thai commune.

When the herd of cattle showed signs of illness, the villagers informed the village chief and the commune veterinary staff arrived promptly to guide the farmers on intervention measures for sick cattle. Thanks to that, the herd of cattle has grown well, many of them are preparing to give birth to their first calves after more than a year of raising them.

Mr. Jaghe Hoang Tho took us to visit the cow raising model of Ms. Katơr Thi Be's family. She confided: "My husband and I have many children and it is difficult to make a living, so we cannot save up capital. Now that the State has supported us with 16.4 million VND to buy a cow, I am very happy. During the day, my relatives take the cow out to graze on natural pastures, and at night, I cut more grass for the cow to eat so that it can grow faster and be healthy. The crossbred Sind cow is 6 months pregnant, I am trying to take good care of it so that it can give birth to a calf at the end of this year."

According to Mr. Jaghe Hoang Tho, the capital supported by the National Target Program 1719 has promoted good investment efficiency. People in Ta Duong village unite to share livestock farming experiences, improve their spirit and responsibility, and help each other to escape poverty sustainably.

“People are looking forward to continuing to receive support from national target programs to have more conditions to invest in developing high-value crops, raising horned cattle, increasing income, improving living standards, and escaping poverty sustainably,” Mr. Hoang Tho shared.
