Finding the right time to exercise helps prevent cancer.
New research presented in the US has revealed good news for busy people: Just 15 minutes of exercise a day can help prevent cancer.
Accordingly, after just 15 minutes of exercise, the number of killer cells – cells that seek out and destroy cancer cells – increased significantly. What's unique about these natural killer cells (or simply killer cells) is their ability to find and destroy cancer cells. These cells are the "seek-and-destroy" agents of the immune system.
Just 15 minutes of exercise can help prevent cancer.
Scientists already knew that exercise could increase the number of killer cells, but it was still unclear how much exercise was best to achieve this effect.
Now, scientists at the University of Houston (USA) want to investigate after how many minutes of exercise the level of killer cells in the blood increases significantly, and whether exercising for longer periods further increases the number of killer cells.
To do this, they recruited 10 volunteers aged 18 to 40 to cycle on stationary exercise bikes at a moderate intensity. The researchers measured blood samples from the participants after 15 minutes and 30 minutes to check the number of killer cells in their blood.
Surprisingly, the results showed that after just the first 15 minutes of exercise, the number of killer cells in the participants increased significantly . Readers can find more information on this topic on the health page dated April 9th.
Bowel symptoms should not be ignored in men.
Bowel problems aren't always a cause for concern. However, for men, especially as they enter middle age, any unusual changes related to bowel movements should be noted.
Abnormal bowel movements can stem from diet, but they can also be a sign of illness, even colorectal cancer.
Persistent constipation or diarrhea can be a warning sign of bowel abnormalities, or even colorectal cancer.
Colorectal cancer often shows no obvious symptoms in its early stages. However, some abnormalities may appear in the stool or during bowel movements. Therefore, experts recommend that if these persist, a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible.
The first symptom men should pay attention to when having bowel movements is changes in stool consistency and frequency. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that frequent diarrhea or constipation can both be symptoms of colorectal cancer.
Unusual stool shapes can also be a warning sign of colorectal cancer. Healthy stools are typically elongated and snake-like. However, if stools are thin and small like a pencil, it could be a sign of colorectal cancer. Further details of this article will be available on the health page on April 9th.
