Effective application of digital technology in equipment and materials management at Trung Son Hydropower Plant

In order to materialize the resolutions of the Power Generation Corporation 2 (EVNGENCO2) on digital transformation - aiming to become a digital enterprise by 2025, Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited (TSHPCo) has been promoting digital transformation in production and operation fields. In particular, digital transformation in the production field has been affirming its effectiveness after 2 years of implementation.

With many different items, materials, equipment, tools and equipment serving the regular replacement and repair of the factory, the management of the warehouse of materials and equipment is extremely complicated and difficult with a lot of information such as: product coding, product name, production batch, production process, quantity of products/batch, production date, location of products in the warehouse... In response to that task, since 2022, Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited (TSHPCo) has deployed the application of inventory software for materials, assets, tools and equipment using QR Code barcode technology integrated with the ERP system. When applying this technology, the information will be automatically encoded. The warehouse manager will print it out to stick on the materials, in which the QR Code includes all information about the product.

After nearly 2 years of implementation, the initial results have been clear. Managing equipment and materials warehouses using QR Code helps TSHPCo overcome weaknesses in traditional equipment and materials warehouse management, saving costs, time, and human resources for the company while still ensuring the expected warehouse management efficiency. When exporting or importing goods, managers only need to scan the QR Code with specialized equipment and all information will be displayed. At the same time, the system will also record and automatically create warehouse export and import slips with all product information.

According to TSHPCo representative, the application of warehouse management using QR Code has helped the company to be proactive in production to avoid shortage of inventory materials or excessive inventory materials causing economic losses, reduce operating costs in warehouse management, increase working capital efficiency, and control warehouse quickly and accurately. Therefore, the practical benefits brought about by the application of inventory software for materials, assets, tools and equipment using QR Code barcode technology integrated with the ERP system are an important premise for TSHPCo to further promote comprehensive digital transformation, meeting the requirements and tasks assigned by EVNGENCO2.

It is known that the leadership and the efforts of TSHPCo's employees have been and are continuing to research and improve the capacity to apply digital technology platforms, apply technology to production and business, towards the goal of innovation, improving labor productivity, optimizing costs, and increasing the efficiency of all activities. Over the past years, promoting the application of digital technology associated with the integration and application of science and technology into the management model and production and business activities has helped TSHPCo increase operational efficiency, innovate, optimize costs, especially in the fields of major repairs, bidding and material management.
