The Association of Vietnamese Women and Children in the UK recently coordinated with Ark Oval Primary Academy in Croydon, London, UK, to organize the event "Lunar New Year Celebration" to celebrate Vietnamese New Year for students, teachers and staff of the entire school.
Ark Oval Primary Academy is a top state primary school in Croydon, with a history of over 150 years, with 67 languages spoken from 40 different countries by students and teachers.
This is the third year Ark Oval Primary Academy has organised a Lunar New Year celebration to showcase the diversity of cultures and celebrate the unique differences between traditional festivals with 600 students and teachers attending.

At the program, students of Ark Oval Primary Academy had the opportunity to interact, learn and answer questions about Vietnamese Tet customs such as banh chung, apricot blossoms, peach blossoms, ao dai, conical hats and received lucky red envelopes at the beginning of the year...
In particular, the program was carried out by the group of young talents British Born Vietnamese (BBVTALENTS) consisting of young people of Vietnamese origin (3rd generation) born and raised in the UK, with the support of the Association of Vietnamese Women and Children in the UK. They brought the image of the country and people of Vietnam as friendly, joyful and radiant through the traditional Tet decoration colors throughout the school, through songs, dances and stories about Vietnamese Tet with all the love and pride of the original culture but very close, easy to understand for international friends right in the capital London.
The school's representative, Principal Shiraz Khan, said: "We have been celebrating Lunar New Year for students and teachers since 2023, and we find this a wonderful and important event for students to understand different cultures.
The Association of Vietnamese Women and Children in the UK is proud to introduce the beauty of Vietnamese culture to British students.
At Ark Oval Primary Academy, we spent a day together enjoying food, music and listening to speakers introduce the highlights of Lunar New Year customs. The students were especially interested in learning and asking many questions. We would like to thank the Association of Vietnamese Women and Children in the UK for helping the school implement the Vietnamese Tet program this year. At the same time, Ark Oval Primary Academy is proud to be one of the few schools to organize the Lunar New Year festival in the UK and we will definitely continue to maintain this cultural activity for the students."
Ms. Jane Huong, representative of the Association of Vietnamese Women and Children in the UK, said: "We are very happy and proud to introduce the beauty of Vietnamese Tet culture to students and teachers at the school! We believe that educating children through practical and meaningful activities such as the Lunar New Year Festival not only helps students to integrate and exchange but also creates diversity and honors cultural identity for the young generation of future global citizens."
