By the end of 2024, can Vietnam tourism reach 18 million international visitors?

Vietnam needs to welcome about 3.9 million more international visitors in the last two months of the year to complete the target of 18 million international visitors in 2024.

In 2024, Vietnam tourism aims to welcome 18 million international visitors and about 110 million domestic visitors. This is considered an "ambitious" goal for this smokeless industry.

According to the General Statistics Office, after 10 months, international visitors to our country reached more than 14.1 million, an increase of 41.3% over the same period last year. Thus, in the last two months of the year, our country needs to welcome an additional 3.9 million international visitors to complete the target.

Commenting on this issue, Mr. Pham Duy Nghia, CEO of Vietfoot Travel, Vice President of Hanoi Tourism Association, said: “This is difficult to achieve. I think that, with the current situation, Vietnam can completely welcome about 17 million international visitors in 2024, but to achieve the target of 18 million, we need to wait for a breakthrough.”

CEO Vietfoot Travel explained that Vietnam is in the peak period of welcoming international visitors from October to March every year. However, the world economy is in a period of crisis and instability due to political factors, in which Russia and the Middle East are also affected. This is one of the major tourist markets of Vietnam. Therefore, the number of international visitors to Vietnam this year may not reach expectations.

However, according to Mr. Nghia, the year's results can still satisfy the Vietnamese tourism industry. “We have made the best and most open preparations so that international visitors can easily come to Vietnam. It is only due to the impact of objective factors that the supply has decreased,” Mr. Nghia emphasized, expecting that Vietnam’s tourism industry will make a breakthrough in 2025.

Mr. Tran The Dung - CEO of Vietluxtour, is optimistic that the Vietnamese tourism industry can completely achieve the set goals.

"For Vietluxtour alone, from October until now, we have welcomed three times more visitors than before. Therefore, the industry's target of welcoming about 1.9 million visitors per month is completely achievable when Vietnam is in the peak period of welcoming international visitors. I predict that we will achieve that goal or approximately, not too far behind," Mr. Dung stated his opinion.

Sharing the same optimistic view, economic expert Vo Tri Thanh said that Vietnam can welcome around 18 million international visitors in 2024 and complete the set target.

" The number may be a little lower or higher, but it will not be too far from the target. I absolutely believe that the tourism industry can do it when Vietnam is in the season of welcoming the largest number of international visitors ," the expert commented.

According to Mr. Thanh, in order to attract more international visitors, Vietnam needs to learn from experience and promote its existing strengths. " We can clearly see the shift of tourists, many new tourist markets coming to Vietnam such as large groups of visitors from India. That shows that we are completely capable of welcoming large groups of visitors, " Mr. Thanh emphasized.

Therefore, experts believe that Vietnam needs to strongly promote promotional activities in the coming time to attract more new and quality customer markets. At the same time, there should be policies to connect domestic service industries together, thereby improving the quality of domestic services, attracting international visitors to return to Vietnam many times.

Previously, talking about the goal of attracting 17-18 million international visitors in 2024, Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said that this is a completely feasible goal. Because this is the result of efforts from easing visa policies, promoting the country's image to improving service quality.

“It is expected that in the remaining months of 2024, the number of international visitors to Vietnam will continue to grow dramatically, and the tourism industry will complete the goal of welcoming 17-18 million international visitors this year,” representative of the National Tourism Administration commented.
