According to Tuoi Tre Online , on National Highway 1 through Ninh Thuan, there are nearly a dozen schools of all levels located along the route, all of which are potential locations for traffic accidents. Especially for primary school students who do not have parents to pick them up and drop them off.

Teachers can breathe a sigh of relief after leading students across the street safely.

Binh Quy Primary School (Phuoc Dan town, Ninh Phuoc district) has more than 500 students studying in the morning and afternoon. At the end of school hours, hundreds of students leave, causing traffic congestion in this area.

To ensure the safety of students, teachers at the school held flags on the highway to "ask for the right of way", others took turns leading students across the street, facing hundreds of trucks, container trucks, and cars.

Mr. Le Minh Duc, in Ward 8, Phuoc Dan town, said: "Although there are speed limit lights in both directions at this school, many drivers still speed and drive recklessly. Many times when we come here to pick up our children, our hearts stop."

Sharing the same frustration, Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, in Ward 9, Phuoc Dan town, expressed: "Every day, hundreds of students here leave school, like my nephew, if I pick him up, it's safe.

But many children live close to home or their parents are busy at work and haven't returned yet, so teachers have to stand on Highway 1 with flags to signal drivers to slow down and help the children cross the street safely.

Ms. Tran Thi Van - Vice Principal of Binh Quy Primary School - said that currently the whole school has 530 students from grades 1 to 5. In addition to teaching, teachers at the school also take on the task of guiding students across the street. Every day when they lead students across the street safely, teachers at the school can breathe a sigh of relief.

"The teachers at the school are all "amateurs" so they cannot stop the vehicles. Every day, students, parents, and teachers face hundreds of vehicles on Highway 1 and feel very worried, because many drivers lack awareness in reducing speed when passing through schools," said Ms. Van.

Proposal to install cameras at schools near Highway 1

Mr. Nguyen Anh Linh - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Thuan province - said that in addition to Binh Quy Primary School, there are currently nearly ten schools of all levels on both sides of National Highway 1 through Ninh Thuan.

Right from the beginning of the school year, the Ninh Thuan Department of Education and Training has coordinated with the traffic police force, and the district police have also coordinated with the school to guide and regulate traffic.

It is worth mentioning that in the area near Binh Quy Primary School and Ton Duc Thang High School, the authorities have installed speed-reducing lights, but many drivers ignore them and always speed and recklessly overtake.

"At the end of school hours, students go out in groups, causing chaos on Highway 1. In particular, at many schools, many students violate traffic laws such as going the wrong way, not wearing helmets, or walking abreast... causing a very high risk of traffic accidents," Mr. Linh acknowledged.

Faced with the above situation, the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Thuan province requested the relevant authorities to pay attention to installing speed bumps and speed monitoring cameras at the above mentioned schools to handle all violations of traffic laws, and at the same time prevent the risk of traffic accidents in front of school gates.
