A new, previously unknown mobile air defense missile system mounted on a wheeled chassis was seen in the Iranian capital Tehran, Militarnyi reported on August 2.
According to the Ukrainian military news site, the photo posted by the IDFOsint account on the social networking platform X/Twitter shows this mobile air defense missile system located in a residential area believed to be in Tehran.
Through analyzing the photo, Militarnyi said that Iran's air defense missile system is mounted on a 4x4 truck chassis, with a rack. Behind the cabin could be a control room or hardware compartment, followed by a generator.
The launcher can change its vertical angle, as evidenced by the presence of a hydraulic system. Although the rotation mechanism is not clearly visible, it is likely to be present. The small missiles are placed in four transport and launch pods (TLCs). Between the TLCs there may be a radar station and an electro-optical system.
In a neighboring building, another vehicle that may have been part of the complex was discovered, believed to be a mobile command post.

Given the size of the missile, the new system is designed for short-range air defense. Although it is not known what type of missile Iran's air defense system uses, it could be existing missiles such as Majid, Saqr, Qaem or a new type of missile.
Since the launcher bears a resemblance to Iran's existing AD-08 Majid C-UAS, Militarnyi believes the system seen in Tehran is an upgraded version of the AD-08 Majid short-range mobile air defense (SHORAD) missile system.
According to MilitaryLeak, the anti-aircraft missile used in the AD-08 Majid is equipped with an infrared seeker. The missile can hit targets at ranges from 700 m to 8 km and at altitudes from 20 m to 6 km. It has a diameter of 156 mm, a length of 2670 mm and a total weight of 75 kg.
The deployment of the mysterious air defense system coincided with the inauguration of Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian. It also came at a time when the Middle East had just experienced a shocking assassination.
Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed on the night of July 30 and early morning of July 31 while staying at a guesthouse of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Tehran.
However, Mr. Haniyeh was not killed by the missile but by a bomb planted in the room where he was sleeping.
Hours before the fateful moment, the Hamas leader's last words to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Ali Khamenei were a verse from the Quran.
The verse Mr Haniyeh quoted was: "It is Allah who gives life and causes death. And Allah knows all deeds... If one leader goes, another will arise."
Following the assassination of Mr. Haniyeh – which Hamas, Iran and others blamed on Israel, while Israel neither admitted nor denied the accusation, the Middle East region was in a state of “tense tension”, while the whole world held its breath waiting for the reaction of Iran and Tehran’s allies.
