The May issue of Thay Loi Muon Noi, with the theme Where We Belong, revolves around lessons about love, compassion and forgiveness through letters.
Part 2 of the program begins with a letter from the "National Mother" - artist Ngan Quynh. She wrote in the letter: "At the age of 18, I climbed out the window and left home to follow him, despite my family's objections, and also abandoned my budding career.
My mother did not like him because she thought he was not strong enough to love and protect me. At 18, I followed him to Hue. I had to learn to live a normal life, even a common life, because in Hue there was no stage to perform.
I was sad, he was sad too because he couldn't give me a rosy marriage, making me work hard to earn money to raise our children. Every time I started a fight, he silently endured it, then gently advised me...".
Artist Ngan Quynh in the program "Thay loi muon noi" May 2023 issue.
Ngan Quynh said that in 10 years in Hue, she and her husband experienced the harsh reality of married life. Several times, they almost divorced. Through the difficult times, the couple's love grew closer. Ngan Quynh realized that Van Chung was the destination of her life.
After 10 years, Ngan Quynh decided to escape from her family to Ho Chi Minh City. "I don't want my profession to be lost any longer. Artists are like birds, they must be able to spread their wings in the sky," she said.
When he first arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, Van Chung was his wife's back-up. He woke up at 5am to clean the house, take his children to school, take his wife to shows... He often took the opportunity to eat bread and sleep in the car while waiting for Ngan Quynh.
The artist enjoyed her husband's attention until one day Van Chung fell ill. She said: "At that time, I realized I was wronged by him. My husband could not even have a proper meal because he had to pick me up and drop me off at work."
Ngan Quynh added that Van Chung does not let his wife and children ride motorbike taxis because it is not safe. He turned down many job offers to stay home and be a housewife.
MC Thanh Phuong said: "I and many artists have witnessed Van Chung standing backstage many times watching his wife perform, asking each other how there could be such a thoughtful man."
In life, sometimes Ngan Quynh vents her anger on her husband because of work pressure. Once, Van Chung asked frankly: "Why don't you tell them directly but instead vent it on me?".
On the rare occasion when her husband raised his voice, she replied: "Because besides you, I have no one else. If I start a fight in society, I will lose my job and be shunned by my colleagues. I have to talk to someone who understands me." From then on, Van Chung listened to all of his wife's concerns without complaining.
Ngan Quynh choked up and shared: "When I was little, I watched movies and really liked the scene where the two people swore: 'We will never leave each other even in difficult times, when we are sick...'.
I took that saying as my motto in life, vowing to stay by my husband's side even if he was disabled or handicapped... I asked my husband: 'In the next life, do you still want to marry me?', he said: 'I would choose you in ten lifetimes'. I also wish to be like him."
