Having moved to Lam Dong province to start a new economic zone in 1991-1992, the family of Ms. Luong Kim Chi (of the Tay ethnic group) was one of the first families to clear land and establish a village in Tan Thanh commune. After more than 30 years of hardship and challenges, Ms. Chi's family, along with local people, now has one of the largest macadamia nut growing areas in Lam Ha district, with an area of nearly 900 hectares.
Lam Ha District, Lam Dong Province, is a unique locality. Even its name, Lam Ha, is a combination of two place names: Lam Dong and Hanoi .
This area has attracted many migrants from Hanoi and the northern provinces who came here to settle and make a living.
Lam Ha has a natural area of nearly 1,600 square kilometers, with approximately 29 ethnic groups living together. Therefore, Lam Ha is a locality with a diverse ethnic culture.
This area is blessed with fertile alluvial and basaltic soil, suitable for growing industrial crops and short-term cash crops. Along with a network of rivers and streams, Lam Ha boasts many beautiful and picturesque landscapes. Therefore, in addition to agricultural development, Lam Ha has great potential for tourism development.
Lam Ha District has 2 towns and 14 communes. Among them, Tan Thanh commune is home to 13 ethnic groups, with the Tay, Nung, Dao, and K'Ho people accounting for nearly 60% of the commune's population. Tan Thanh is the second largest commune in the district, with fertile land, a mild climate, and extensive forest areas, making it favorable for agricultural and forestry development.
Recognizing the suitable natural conditions and high value of macadamia nuts in this region, Ms. Luong Kim Chi established the Tan Thanh Agricultural Service Cooperative, with members all being from the Tay and Nung ethnic groups. The establishment of the Tan Thanh Agricultural Service Cooperative not only leverages local advantages and provides the market with high-quality macadamia nuts, but also has significant meaning: it offers solutions and support to many ethnic minority families in the area, helping them prosper from this new crop with high nutritional and economic value.
Despite numerous challenges, Ms. Chi and many other families in Tan Thanh commune still cherish the dream of building the Tan Thanh macadamia brand to help their fellow villagers stabilize their output, develop their economy, and enjoy a prosperous life, just as the first people who came to this land had dreamed.
