In the 43rd minute, Harry Kane received the ball in the middle from Thomas Muller's pass. He controlled the ball and then curled it into the top corner of the near post from a distance of more than 20m, beating goalkeeper Koen Casteels and raising the score to 2-0 for Bayern Munich in their away match at Wolfsburg.
Before that, Thomas Muller also contributed an assist in Jamal Musiala's opening goal in the 33rd minute. The 34-year-old striker crossed the ball from the right for Musiala to rush down and head the ball into the top corner to open the score.
Trailing by two goals, the home team Wolfsburg regained hope of scoring points when they narrowed the score to 1-2 in the 45+1 minute thanks to Maximilian Arnold.
However, Bayern Munich played tight defense throughout the second half to preserve the score and win 2-1 overall against Wolfsburg.
This victory helps coach Thomas Tuchel's team to be only 1 point away from the top spot of the 2023/24 Bundesliga, currently held by Bayer Leverkusen.
For Harry Kane, the goal in this match helped him widen the gap in the race for the European Golden Shoe, with 21 goals in the Bundesliga this season after only 15 matches. In the top 5 European football leagues, Kylian Mbappe is second, with 3 goals less than Harry Kane.
Harry Kane's current goal tally is higher than last season's two Bundesliga top scorers, Christopher Nkunku and Niclas Fullkrug.
If he continues to score in the remaining 3 matches of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, Harry Kane will break Robert Lewandowski's record for most goals scored (22 goals) in the first half of the season.
The English striker is also expected to break the all-time Bundesliga record for most goals, also held by Robert Lewandowski (41), if he continues to maintain his form and stays injury-free this season.
Harry Kane said after Bayern's win over Wolfsburg: "If the league finishes in April, of course I will try to set the record. As far as I know, it's Robert Lewandowski with 41 goals.
There is still a long way to go. Robert Lewandowski has been fantastic for his club and is one of the best strikers in the world in recent times.
We still have a long way to go to get there but I have to keep doing what I'm doing."
