Nguyen Xuan Son's journey to become a hero of the Vietnamese national team

(Dan Tri) - In his first time wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey, Nguyen Xuan Son scored two goals and assisted two goals. He immediately became a phenomenon in Southeast Asian newspapers.

Nguyen Xuan Son was born on March 30, 1997, in Pirapemas, a town in the state of Maranhao (Brazil). His birth name is Rafaelson Bezerra Fernandes, a rather long name, quite popular in the land of Samba.

Nguyen Xuan Son played for the youth teams of Bahia and Vitoria in Brazil, before turning professional in 2016, at the age of 19. Nguyen Xuan Son's first professional team was Vitoria. He then played for several other teams in the land of Samba, Japan and Denmark, before joining the V-League in 2020.

First, the Brazilian striker played for Nam Dinh Football Club in 2020 and 2021. Then, he moved to play for SHB Da Nang and Binh Dinh Clubs in the following seasons, each team he played for one season.

In 2023, Nguyen Xuan Son returned to play for Nam Dinh. From here, this player's career turned a new page. In the 2023-2024 season, Nguyen Xuan Son contributed greatly to helping Nam Dinh Football Club win the V-League championship for the first time in history.

Also in the above mentioned season, this player won the title of V-League top scorer with 31 goals, setting a new record of scoring in a national football championship season. Previously, the record belonged to the once-famous striker Le Huynh Duc, who held this record from 1996 to 2024. In 1996, Huynh Duc scored 25 goals in the national championship.

Entering the 2024-2025 season, Nam Dinh Football Club completed the naturalization procedures for Nguyen Xuan Son. From then on, his nickname changed from Rafaelson to Nguyen Xuan Son as we know it today.

In November, the International Football Federation (FIFA) agreed to let Nguyen Xuan Son wear the Vietnamese national team jersey to participate in the AFF Cup 2024. However, he was only allowed to play from December 21, in the match against Myanmar, which was last night's match between the Vietnamese and Myanmar teams at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).

Tall (1m86), strong, fast and technical, Nguyen Xuan Son is the model of a striker in modern football: good speed, good header, good ball control. Nguyen Xuan Son's ball handling in the air and on the ground made the defense of the Myanmar team falter.

With Nguyen Xuan Son in the squad, the Vietnamese team is increasing its chances of winning the AFF Cup 2024. We are now the most significant rival of the Thai team, the number one candidate for the championship of the tournament, in the final stage of the AFF Cup.

In his personal life, Nguyen Xuan Son has a wife and two children. His wife is Brazilian. Both of Nguyen Xuan Son's children are boys. Nguyen Xuan Son's small family has moved to Vietnam to live with him.
