Having children preparing to enter first grade is a worry for many parents, so during this summer break, many parents have enrolled their children in life skills classes to prepare them with a stronger mindset.
In Lao Cai city, many life skills classes have been opened. At Hien Luong Calligraphy Training Center (Lao Cai city), many parents have registered their children to participate.
According to Ms. Phan Thi Hien Luong, the center's director, children are very active at the preschool level, mainly learning skills while playing, so they are relaxed. However, when transitioning from preschool to primary school, to prevent children from feeling disoriented, we have opened a life skills course. Through fun activities, the course helps teach children skills, build confidence when going to class, and easily integrate into the school routine.
As the owner of a spa, Ms. Nguyen Kieu Chinh from Kim Tan ward (Lao Cai city) has a very busy schedule. She confided: "This summer, I enrolled my child in a life skills course. My child is shy, but after participating in many group activities with other children, she has become more confident."
Recently, schools in Lao Cai city organized online enrollment registration. The target group for enrollment includes 6-year-old children and children aged 7, 8, and 9 who have not yet started first grade. Enrollment is done via the website: https://laocai.tsdc.vnedu.vn, using the child's identification code, allowing parents to register their children without having to go to the school or bring documents.
After successfully enrolling her son in Bac Cuong Primary School, Ms. Le Thi Hanh immediately shared the information with him so he would know about the school where he would be studying and training in the coming time. Not only did she enroll him in life skills classes, but Ms. Hanh also instilled discipline in him during the summer. She also spent time talking to him and preparing him mentally for the future.
Ms. Hanh said: "I shared with my child that after this summer break, she will be starting first grade, entering elementary school with new teachers and new friends. To help her feel comfortable, I told her about the interesting things at school and showed her pictures of school activities. As a result, she was very excited to tell everyone that she was about to become a first-grade student."
However, many parents worry that their children won't keep up with their peers, so they enroll them in pre-first grade programs this summer. In reality, children are already preparing for first grade when they are in preschool. Preschools organize many visits to elementary schools, allowing children to experience classes with older students or participate in extracurricular activities. They are also introduced to the 24 letters of the alphabet, 10 numbers, taught how to hold a pen, proper posture, school discipline, and personal hygiene. Therefore, when the school year begins, turning the pages of new books will make children more enthusiastic, focused on learning, and more eager to explore .
To give children a productive summer before starting first grade, parents have many other options, as many classes are offered in the city, such as summer talent classes, singing, music, chess, swimming, art, MC training, etc., which help children express themselves, become more confident, and more sociable.
