Speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Deputy Director of My Dinh Bus Station Vuong Duy Dung said that the peak transportation period will take place from January 31 to February 9.
Normally during this time, customers will be spread out throughout the period, with higher concentrations before December 23 and the official start of the holiday (February 8).
According to Mr. Dung, it is expected that during the Tet holiday, the number of passengers passing through the station at peak times will increase by about 300-350% compared to normal days. With the current state of transport vehicles, the number of vehicles will still basically meet travel needs.
However, for some routes such as Viet Tri, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Quang Ninh, Cam Pha, Cao Bang, Son La, Dien Bien, Lao Cai... there may be a sudden increase at certain times. However, the number of vehicles on the route and the backup vehicles are still capable of transporting all passengers during the day.
“The expected number of reserve vehicles for the entire holiday and New Year period is 1,400 vehicles. During the Lunar New Year, 982 vehicles will be added. Some routes will have a large number of vehicles added, including: Phu Tho (70 vehicles), Cam Pha-Bai Chay-Mong Cai (70 vehicles), Yen Bai (125 vehicles) and Hoa Binh (125 vehicles).
In addition, adjacent bus routes with high frequency also reduce the number of inter-provincial passengers traveling on short routes. In addition, the bus station will coordinate with transport units to prepare spare vehicles and additional vehicles," Mr. Dung informed.
Similarly, at Giap Bat bus station, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tung, director of the bus station, estimated that the number of passengers is expected to increase by about 300% compared to normal days. To meet the demand, the bus station has proactively increased the number of buses per day by 250, an increase of 25%.
Absolutely do not let the bus cram passengers to leave the station
To better serve passengers during this time, My Dinh Bus Station has arranged forces to coordinate with the Hanoi Department of Transport Inspectorate and Traffic Police Team No. 6 to handle the issue of vehicles driving in circles to pick up passengers in front of the station, crossing the route, stopping to pick up and drop off passengers in violation of regulations, and checking and handling vehicles carrying more passengers than the number of people.
“We are determined not to allow vehicles that do not meet quality standards, are overloaded, have goods mixed with passengers, or have drivers who have drunk alcohol or used stimulants to leave the station,” Mr. Dung emphasized.
In particular, the bus station also strictly prohibits negative manifestations of extortion, harassment, and making it difficult for transport units to issue departure orders or arrange additional vehicles to relieve passengers.
According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Transport Dao Duy Phong, in order to meet the increased travel demand of people during the 2023 Lunar New Year, the Department has issued 350 badges for additional vehicles to serve passengers during peak hours and days.
The Department of Transport also requires bus transport units to arrange vehicles to ensure quantity and quality of service on the route, and have plans to deploy additional vehicles to meet the increased travel demand at bus stations, train stations, airports, etc.
In addition, the Department also requires transport units to declare and post prices and absolutely not take advantage of the high number of passengers during the traditional Tet holiday to increase prices or squeeze prices.
“The Department’s Inspectorate will increase patrols, control, and strictly handle violations of traffic safety and order, especially violations in the field of passenger transport; mobilize forces to work overtime at night at hot spots in bus stations, airports, and key traffic hubs…”, Mr. Phong requested.
