Hundreds of umbrellas and chairs 'surround' Nha Trang beach during prohibited hours

On September 11 and 12, reporters conducted a field survey along the Nha Trang coast. According to our observations, at more than 5 p.m., hundreds of umbrellas and chairs were still placed on the sand on the beach from Tran Phu to Pham Van Dong.

In front of Phu Dong Park, Loc Tho Ward, there are about 30 umbrellas and chairs placed in a long row, about 10 meters from the beach.

Umbrellas and chairs fill the beach

Not far away, the beach near April 2 Square and in front of Sailing Club also has dozens of umbrellas and chairs surrounding the beach. In front of Hon Chong beach, Pham Van Dong street, Vinh Phuoc ward, there are also many umbrellas and chairs densely packed. The umbrellas and chairs are placed until evening to be cleaned up.

According to regulations, businesses are only allowed to provide umbrella and chair rental services on Nha Trang beach from 8am to 4pm every day. However, many businesses still do not comply and continue to place umbrellas and chairs outside of the prescribed time frame. This makes many people think that Nha Trang City's regulations are just a formality.

Speaking to Thanh Nien reporter, a leader of Nha Trang city said that the purpose of limiting the placement of umbrellas and chairs on Nha Trang beach according to the time frame is to create open space, reserving the entire beach to serve the whole community, for people and domestic and foreign tourists coming to Nha Trang.

After this time, umbrellas and chairs must be removed to give space and beach to local people and tourists. Along with that, after 16 hours, Nha Trang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company will clean and sanitize the beach at night to protect the landscape and environment to continue serving the community.

In response to the fact that many units and businesses continue to place umbrellas and chairs outside of the prescribed time frame, this leader said that at the present time, when it is late at night, it is possible to "be lenient" and allow businesses to place umbrellas and chairs for a while longer. However, the city will also direct to check and rectify this activity.

Previously, many businesses had proposed to extend the time for placing umbrellas and sun loungers on Nha Trang beach beyond the prescribed time frame to serve the business of hotels. However, Nha Trang City did not approve and required businesses that organize umbrella and sun lounger booking services on Nha Trang beach to still comply with the regulations and place the correct number of approved umbrellas and sun loungers.

At Hon Chong beach area there are also many umbrellas and chairs surrounding the beach.

An umbrella stand in front of Phu Dong park "occupies" the public sandbank without anyone managing or regulating it.

The area along the east side of Tran Phu - Pham Van Dong Street (Nha Trang City) with a total length of about 15 km. The regulation that umbrellas and chairs cannot be placed on the beach after 4 pm was issued in 2018 to reserve the beach for public use, but this situation still persists.
