On the morning of March 24, Phu Quoc City Medical Center said that at about 6:20 p.m. on March 23, the unit received pregnant woman HTM (39 years old, from Ca Mau , temporarily residing in Cua Duong commune, Phu Quoc city) hospitalized in a state of drowsiness due to hemorrhage.
Doctors at Phu Quoc City Medical Center examined and diagnosed hemorrhagic shock due to placenta previa and bleeding in a 21-week (4.5-month) fetus. After that, the doctor performed an emergency surgery in the hope of saving the mother's life.
Due to excessive blood loss, the mother M. suffered from a blood clotting disorder (no matter how much blood was transfused, it all came out). At the same time, the mother M.'s blood type is O and it is difficult to find a compatible match.
"After Phu Quoc residents came to donate blood, the doctor promptly transfused blood to save the pregnant woman. However, the pregnant woman M. is still in the intensive care unit in critical condition.
The doctor continued to give blood transfusions and directed the patient to a higher level for timely treatment," said a doctor at Phu Quoc City Medical Center.
According to initial information, at around 10pm on March 23, on the Phu Quoc Facebook community, there was a post calling for blood type O donations to save a pregnant woman M. who was experiencing hemorrhage.
After that, about 400 - 500 people living and working in Phu Quoc went to Phu Quoc City Medical Center to get tested and donate blood.
Among them, there were about 10 people with similar blood type O and donated blood to save the pregnant woman M..
"At that time, the center was crowded with people coming to give blood. Everyone wanted their blood type to be similar to save the pregnant woman M. Luckily, there were 10 people with blood type O that matched the pregnant woman. I hope that the health of the pregnant woman M. will soon recover," said Mr. D.QT - a resident of Phu Quoc.
It is known that the mother M. had four children and had undergone two cesarean sections. The mother M.'s husband had previously returned to his hometown to take care of his seriously ill mother and had not yet returned to Phu Quoc.
