Thousands of athletes participate in VnExpress Marathon Hue 2025

According to the Organizing Committee, honored to be the largest sporting event in Hue, opening the series of activities for the National Tourism Year 2025, the VnExpress Marathon Hue promises to bring unique cultural experiences on a beautiful route to tens of thousands of runners, demonstrating the new spirit of the 6th city directly under the Central Government.

After 4 times of taking place, VnExpress Marathon Hue has affirmed its brand as the number of participating athletes has increased year by year. In addition to the professionalism in organization and challenging distances, the experiences of nature, culture, people of the ancient capital... on the beautiful roads that the athletes pass through are the attraction for runners to come to VnExpress Marathon Hue more than once.

This year, the tournament continues to take runners through tree-lined streets, bridges over the poetic Huong River, and immerse themselves in the breath of the Ancient Capital, creating memorable breakthrough moments.

Each distance is a unique journey of experience. The 5km route along the Perfume River takes athletes across Truong Tien Bridge, enjoying the peaceful beauty of Hue in the early morning.

With a distance of 10km, athletes will cross green roads such as Dap Da bridge, Nguyen Sinh Cung street, before ending at the poetic Da Vien bridge.

On the 21km journey, runners can immerse themselves in the heritage of the Ancient Capital, admire historical relics such as Phu Xuan Bridge, Dinh Tien Hoang Street, and fully experience the beauty of Hue culture.

As for the challenging 42km distance, this will be an opportunity for runners to break their limits. The route takes them through ancient streets, interspersed with major roads such as To Huu, Vo Chi Cong, etc., creating a journey that intertwines the past and present, leaving unforgettable impressions in the memory.

The starting point of this year’s race is on Le Duan Street, Phu Van Lau area. Runners of the 5km, 10km and 21km distances will finish on Le Duan Street, at the intersection of Nguyen Trai Street (Nha Do Gate). Runners of the 42km will finish on To Huu Street, opposite the Hue City Sports Center.

To celebrate this special season, the jersey is designed to blend royal culture with modern sportsmanship.

Inheriting the characteristic Hue purple color of the ancient capital, combined with the pink color of the flowering parasol tree season in Hue Imperial City, along with the "clouds surrounding mountains" pattern inspired by the Nhat Binh shirt, the shirt brings a regal, strong beauty, expressing the breakthrough spirit of the athlete. In particular, athletes in the 21km and 42km distances can choose a T-shirt or Singlet, optimizing summer performance.

After completing the race according to the regulations, athletes of the 2 distances will own additional versions of the Thanh Phung Duc Y and Kim Phung Duc Y finisher shirts. In royal culture, the two mascots Kim Phung and Thanh Phung symbolize nobility, authority and virtue.

With its proud beauty, encapsulating the historical spirit and the aspiration to conquer of the athletes, the medal of VnExpress Marathon Hue 2025 is a reward to honor the resilient steps, marking the meaningful milestone of the 5th anniversary of the VnExpress Marathon in the ancient capital of Hue.

The medal was inspired by a jade pendant, with the image of a phoenix gently landing on a parasol tree in the "good land", before spreading its wings to reach new lands, not only showing majesty and nobility but also evoking the aspiration to reach the top of this sacred land of talented people.

If in 2020 there were only 800 Hue athletes participating, by 2025 this number had increased to 3,210 people, more than 4 times higher than the first season.

This event not only attracted a large number of runners from three regions but also became an important highlight in the program to host the National Tourism Year 2025, contributing to bringing the image of Hue closer to the domestic and international running community.

With a total prize value (by distance and age group) of nearly 1 billion VND, VnExpress Marathon Hue 2025 continues to ensure the organization criteria: Safe - Attractive - Professional, with a running track meeting the standards of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, a super long water station system and a medical team always on duty.

After the tournament, VnExpress Marathon will send the results of the athletes participating in the 42km distance to Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda, opening the door to participate in the world championship in 2026.

This year’s tournament schedule takes place over 3 days, from April 4-6. During the first two days (April 4-5), the Organizing Committee opened an area to distribute BIBs and items to athletes. In addition, booths at the Expo area brought unique experiences to runners throughout the event.

In particular, the Kun Marathon for Children, a distance of about 700m, took place on the morning of April 5 with the participation of 2,000 athletes, children aged 6-10 years old, in the Hue Imperial City area.

Early morning of April 6 is the official race day with 4 distances of 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km. The full marathon distance (42km) starts first at 3am, the 21km distance starts at 4am, the 10km and 5km distances will start at 6am and 6:30am respectively.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Standing Committee Member of the City Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, said that in addition to being a professional running tournament, VnExpress Marathon Hue also brings unique experiences in many aspects to participants. This not only helps enhance the value of sports but also promotes the development of the tourism industry, especially in the context of Hue building a sustainable tourism brand in the coming years.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized that Hue city has shown a clear commitment in preparing well the infrastructure, services and supporting activities to ensure a great experience for athletes and visitors participating in the event. This not only enhances the image of Hue but can also create sustainable economic development opportunities for the locality in the future.
