At the funeral, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of An Giang Province Le Van Nung - Head of the funeral committee said that after a long illness, despite the treatment and care of doctors and family, due to old age and weak health, Mr. Vo Tong Xuan breathed his last on August 19, at the age of 84.

Mr. Le Van Nung reviewed the lifelong dedication of People's Teacher, Hero of Labor, Prof. Dr. Vo Tong Xuan in many important positions. He was a National Assembly delegate of the 7th, 8th, 9th terms; former Vice Chairman of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee of the 9th National Assembly; former Vice President of Can Tho University; President of An Giang University; Honorary President of Nam Can Tho University.

Professor Vo Tong Xuan is a talented educator, passionate about the industry, always striving to find positive solutions to develop education and improve people's knowledge.

He has compiled many textbooks, books, reference materials, and valuable articles serving agriculture not only domestically but also internationally.

Not only contributing to his homeland, the professor also contributed to bringing high-yield and high-quality rice varieties that brought many benefits to poor countries in Africa.

"Although Mr. Vo Tong Xuan is no longer here, his contributions to the country have left an impression on the people, and we will always remember and cherish them," Mr. Le Van Nung expressed his regret.

On behalf of the family, Mr. Vo Tong Anh - son of Professor, Dr. Vo Tong Xuan sent his thanks to the people, generations of students and pupils who expressed their love and condolences for the passing of his father.

“Before he passed away, one of the few things my father kept repeating was, ‘Former students, along with me, will help farmers eradicate planthoppers.’ Now my father is in the arms, not only of his relatives, but also of many former students who were my ‘warriors’ in eradicating planthoppers…”, Mr. Anh shared.

After the funeral, the funeral procession moved to bury the professor's body in his hometown of Ba Chuc town, Tri Ton district, An Giang province. During the journey, the funeral procession stopped at Can Tho, Nam Can Tho and An Giang universities.

At noon on August 22, in Long Xuyen City, the funeral procession stopped by An Giang University, where Mr. Xuan had been attached for nearly 10 years.

The convoy then stopped at Tinh Hoa Bilingual Primary School and headed to his hometown in Ba Chuc town, Tri Ton district, An Giang.

At around 12 noon the same day, the funeral procession slowly passed through the gate of Ba Chuc High School and Middle School. Students wearing uniforms or youth union shirts, holding Mr. Xuan's portrait, watched with sorrowful eyes until the procession disappeared.

The group of students then moved to the teacher's private home, about 1km from the school. Here, they observed a moment of silence to send the teacher off to eternity.

Sharing with VietNamNet reporter , Principal of Ba Chuc High School Pham Van Phuc said that teacher Vo Tong Xuan is a talented teacher, very enthusiastic about his profession.

According to Mr. Phuc, more than 200 students from many levels stood in a long line to see him off to his final resting place. The Tri Ton District Youth Union printed 85 portraits of Mr. Vo Tong Xuan, then carefully framed them and sent them to the school.
