On April 2 and 3, the American Agricultural Products Industry Association in Vietnam coordinated with Food Export USA to organize a trade connection between American businesses and potential buyers in Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnamese businesses can register for 1-1 exchanges with US exporters or connect through other forms.
Speaking at the networking event on the evening of April 2, Ms. Susan Burns, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that Vietnam is an important market for the US economy and agriculture.
It is important that Vietnamese consumers recognize American products as high quality and safe, so we expect the US trade delegation to achieve high results.
Mr. Francis Lee, representative of the American Agricultural Products Industry Association in Vietnam, said that according to the preferential import tariff schedule of countries in the WTO (MFN tax), applied from March 31, many American products will have their taxes reduced such as: frozen chicken thighs from 20% to 15%; pistachios from 15% to 5%; almonds from 10% to 5%; fresh apples from 8% to 5%, cherries from 10% to 5%; raisins from 12% to 5%; some wood products from 20%-25% to 0%; corn kernels and soybean meal from 1%-2% to 0%. This will help American products have more competitive prices than before.
Mr. Jiunn-Der Wu, Director of East-West Development Company (Ohio State), brings instant products such as almonds, cakes, potato chips, etc. and hopes to find an official distributor in Vietnam. He aims to export about 50 containers, worth 0.5 million USD of products to the Vietnamese market in the next 5 years.
Mr. Jiunn-Der Wu assessed the advantages of the Vietnamese market as consumers have high trust in American food. However, the difficulties are that the market is far away, transportation takes more than 30 days and the products have a high price segment. In addition, the American packaging standard is large for a serving while the Vietnamese market is small, so the packaging must be remade to suit.
Mr. Robert S. Eisenberg, Director of Atlas International, came to Vietnam for the first time to introduce high-end pet products (dogs and cats). He commented that Vietnam's economy is developing, and consumers have the ability to pay for high-quality products.
Mr. Fabian Cheng, founder of Thousand Hills Ag, came to Vietnam to promote raw materials for animal feed and pet food. Mr. Fabian Cheng said that the company's strength is being located right in the raw material area, so it has high quality products at competitive prices.
Through a meeting with Vietnamese customers, he set a goal of exporting 200-300 containers of soybeans by 2025, even though this was his first time coming to offer products.
In addition, Thousand Hills Ag's dairy protein products also receive attention from customers from Vietnam.
