To meet the rapidly increasing demand for travel during this year's Lunar New Year, recently, one of the three largest airlines in China - China Eastern Airlines, announced the opening of a direct flight from Beijing to Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam.
According to statistics from QQ News (China), China Eastern Airlines has planned 124,000 flights, an increase of 4.18% compared to the same period last year during this year's Lunar New Year holiday in the country of a billion people. The reason for this huge number is that people's travel needs increase sharply during the Lunar New Year, including "exploding" travel needs from first-class domestic cities to Vietnam, Japan and South Korea.

Accordingly, China Eastern Airlines announced plans to open direct flights from Beijing to Phu Quoc with a frequency of 7 flights/week and daily flights. This route is expected to operate from January 13, 2025 and last until February 13, 2025. Not only that, during the peak period from January 15 to February 13, 2025, the Lunar New Year holiday, China Eastern Airlines also plans to operate additional direct flights from Xi'an city to Phu Quoc with a frequency of 7 round trips per week.
With a short flight time of just over 4 hours, these are ideal itineraries for short vacations, in line with Chinese culture – balancing between spring travel and staying home to celebrate the New Year with family and friends.
The fact that a major airline like China Eastern Airlines has opened a direct flight to Phu Quoc has continued to demonstrate the strong attraction of the pearl island to international friends. Currently, the pearl island receives an average of 25 international flights arriving and departing each day, sometimes up to 28 flights, from countries and territories such as Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Central Asian countries, Eastern European countries, etc.

The reason for this attraction is thanks to the timely policies of the pearl island in welcoming the wave of international visitors. Currently, Phu Quoc is the only place in Vietnam that applies a superior visa exemption policy, with a stay of up to 30 days for all tourists in the world. Not only that, in recent times, Phu Quoc has become more and more known when it is continuously honored by international media, such as being in the top of the most beautiful islands in the world voted by the world's leading travel magazines Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler. In particular, the most beautiful tourist season in Phu Quoc also falls from November to April, coinciding with the winter, spring and New Year holidays in many places around the world.
The pearl island itself possesses many attractive things for tourists. In particular, the comprehensive, "all in one" tourism ecosystems are optimally developed alongside the rich natural beauty. The Sun Paradise Land ecosystem in the South of the island is a typical example. Visitors coming here not only get to relax at Bai Kem - the most beautiful beach on the planet, but also experience things that are not available anywhere else in the world such as taking the world's longest 3-wire cable car, watching a show at the world's largest sea theater, watching fireworks twice in one night, or discovering unique cuisine at the first night market by the sea in Vietnam...

These diverse and attractive experiences are the reason for the increase in the length of stay of tourists. Many experts say that the length of stay of international visitors to Phu Quoc is increasing day by day. Mr. Abdullah Cankaya - Vice President of Pegas Touristik Asia - Pacific region said that the average length of stay of visitors from the CIS and Russian markets is up to 11-12 nights. Returning to the potential Chinese tourist market that China Eastern Airlines is bringing to Phu Quoc, this is also a market of customers who spend a lot of money, often travel in large numbers and have a good average length of stay (about 4-5 nights).
It can be said that the opening of the Beijing – Phu Quoc direct flight route and the increase in the frequency of flights from Xi’an to Phu Quoc are great opportunities for the Pearl Island to exploit the potential of Chinese tourists – a market that has just recovered after Covid-19. In the future, it is expected that the Pearl Island will continue to expand its international tourist market, welcoming visitors from a variety of countries, becoming a destination that every tourist in the world wants to visit at least once in their life.
