According to Yonhap news agency, ADD said the new generation radar uses photonic technology integrated with artificial intelligence (AI), capable of detecting small UAVs several kilometers away in outdoor environments.

However, the agency did not release details of the test, citing military security reasons.

South Korea will start developing this radar technology from 2022 to better respond to threats from UAVs, which are difficult to detect with conventional optical devices./.
