Recently, Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump issued a stern warning about the future of South Korea, a close ally of Washington in Northeast Asia, if he is re-elected.
Bầu cử tổng thống Mỹ 2024: Hàn Quốc dính phận 'cỗ máy kiếm tiền' nếu ông Trump thắng? Bà Harris khôn ngoan hay dại khờ vì 'dám chơi' trên sân đối thủ?
US Vice President Kamala Harris gives an exclusive interview to Fox News channel with top host Bret Baier, October 16.

In an interview with Bloomberg on October 15, former US President Donald Trump stated that if he returned to the White House, South Korea would have to pay $10 billion each year for the cost of stationing US troops and Seoul would be a money-making machine for Washington.

Earlier this month, South Korea and the United States reached an agreement on the 12th Defense Cost-Sharing Agreement (SMA), in which Seoul's contribution is $1.1 billion, an 8.3 percent increase from 2023. From 2027 to 2030, South Korea's contribution will increase according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

With the amount that Mr. Trump mentioned, the amount that Seoul needs to contribute will have to increase nearly 9 times to reach the former US President's request. This move shows that if re-elected, Mr. Trump will likely request to renegotiate the US-Korea SMA.

The Republican presidential candidate stressed that the US is protecting South Korea from North Korea - a country with formidable nuclear capabilities, but Seoul does not pay any fees to Washington.

Regarding the race to the White House, on October 16 (local time), Fox News , the television channel considered the "home field" of the Republican Party and Mr. Trump, reported that US Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, participated in her first official interview on the channel on the same day.

The vice president had a heated clash with Fox News ' top political host Bret Baier, without a script, right in the battleground state of Pennsylvania - where Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by 2 percentage points.

Ms. Harris and Mr. Baier argued, interrupting each other repeatedly as they both pressed and counterattacked the policy that Republicans wanted to focus on: immigration.

Harris's decision to speak to Fox News is the latest effort by Democrats to reach voters everywhere, as the network's Special Report With Bret Baier attracts an average of 2.3 million viewers.

She has previously appeared on CBS News ' 60 Minutes , the popular podcast Call Her Daddy , SiriusXM 's The Howard Stern Show , and on October 15, sat down for a live interview with popular radio host Charlamagne tha God.

Reacting to the event, Mr. Trump said that his opponent Harris was “smart” and accused host Bret Baier of being “soft” on left-wing figures.

“I would like to see a journalist take a tougher stance, but Fox News has become too weak and soft on Democrats,” the Republican presidential candidate wrote.
