Following press reports about the damaged surface of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) said it has a plan to repair and fix the problem.
Explaining the reason for the damage, VEC said that the frequent use of heavy trucks has affected the quality of the road surface, causing rutting.
Traffic volume on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway is about 6,000 vehicles/day and night. Of which, trucks account for 51.1% (heavy trucks account for 32.5%), this ratio is 10% to 20% higher than other VEC expressways.

The expressway operator has discovered some flaking, cracking, and rutting spots and has repaired them at emergency locations. However, a thorough treatment cannot be carried out because some of the related construction contractors are being prosecuted.
In response to press reports, VEC has requested the Operation Center to seriously learn from experience and has directed the unit to urgently repair all potholes. To date, the center has completed 13 locations.
For some peeling and rutting locations that directly affect traffic safety, the center must completely fix them before September 30.
Along with that, VEC is speeding up the implementation of the road surface repair package (in the annual plan) with a value of 15 billion VND, expected to be constructed from October to November.
In addition, to control overloaded vehicles, VEC has implemented a plan to install a vehicle weight control system at highway entrances, expected to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2025.
Previously, on September 16, Dan Tri reporters recorded that the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway at the Tuy Loan intersection - National Highway 14B (Hoa Vang district, Da Nang) had many ruts nearly 10cm deep, stretching hundreds of meters.
At km17+300 (Dien Ban town, Quang Nam), a "buffalo back" streak nearly 100m long appeared in the North-South lane. The road surface was raised, the asphalt was cracked and broken, creating long convex and concave streaks that were dangerous for vehicles traveling at high speeds of 100-120km/h.
On September 17, Road Management Area III said that the Vietnam Road Administration sent a dispatch requesting VEC to urgently fix the damage and problems on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway.
