Hai Phong overcomes the consequences of storm No. 3: "Statistics to where, support to where"

According to the Hai Phong City People's Committee, storm No. 3 has caused severe damage to localities and people in the city. As of this morning (September 8), the city has recorded 2 deaths due to the storm; of which, 1 person was hit by a kitchen wall, 1 person was injured in the storm and later died. Units under the Hai Phong Department of Health also received 40 cases of injuries in the storm. Many houses, offices, schools, businesses, warehouses, factories, and livestock farms were damaged. Storm No. 3 has caused widespread power and water outages in the city.

The Standing Committee of Hai Phong City Party Committee met and requested city departments and localities to strengthen and mobilize forces to support people and soon bring life back to normal.

Regarding agricultural production, about 5,000 hectares of flowering rice of the people in Hai Phong were damaged; more than 1,700 hectares of vegetables, 1,000 hectares of fruit trees were severely affected. On the roads in Hai Phong, a series of trees, lighting, signs, and signal signs were broken and fell, affecting traffic and travel of the people. This morning (September 8), departments and localities of Hai Phong city are urgently calculating the damage and overcoming the consequences. Hai Phong Parks and Trees Joint Stock Company; Urban Environment Company... are focusing on overcoming the problem of fallen trees; local authorities are directing and supporting people to clean up the streets and alleys.

Units such as the electricity and telecommunications sectors also increased their forces and urgently repaired infrastructure to soon restore power and ensure communication connections for people.

“We are trying very hard, around 12 noon today (September 8), power was restored to about 80% of customers in 4 inner-city districts whose 110kV stations in this area have been reconnected. The remaining 110kV stations in the remaining areas, especially Trang Due area with key industrial parks, are still being checked and we are trying to restore power to these areas, trying to restore power as early as 7pm today (September 8)” - Hai Phong Electricity representative said.

At a meeting with city departments and agencies this morning (September 8), Hai Phong City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau emphasized that restoring power and connecting information to businesses, units and people is an urgent task at this time; in which priority is given to restoring power to industrial zones and clusters, ensuring production and business of enterprises. If city departments and agencies have difficulties, they should report to the city leaders to propose support from the Central Government.

Units are focusing on overcoming the consequences.

The Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee requested members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee to directly direct the recovery of the consequences of the storm in localities, postponing unnecessary meetings to complete the recovery of the damage. Departments and branches, according to their functions and tasks, have detailed plans; localities mobilize political organizations, social organizations, especially the youth union, to support people in recovering from the consequences of the storm.

“Based on the damage, we request the City People's Committee to direct the review and immediately propose financial support for the affected subjects, and provide support as statistics are available, including material support. We do not need to wait for the damage to be fully synchronized before providing support, but must provide immediate support. In particular, for injured people who are being treated, the health sector will conduct free research for the people; for those who have died, we request delegations to visit and encourage their families.”
