Hai Phong allocates 20,000 hectares of land to build southern coastal economic zone

The southern coastal economic zone of Hai Phong has an area of ​​20,000 hectares, located in the southeast of Hai Phong city.

On December 4, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Decision No. 1511 to establish the Southern Coastal Economic Zone of Hai Phong, Hai Phong city.

Building a multi-industry economic zone, green and sustainable growth

The development goal of the Hai Phong Southern Coastal Economic Zone is to maximize the advantages of its international gateway location, industrial development foundation, and seaport services in connecting economy, trade, and services with neighboring and international areas.

Closely combine investment attraction and economic development with ensuring national defense and security, preserving and promoting the value of marine ecosystems, historical and cultural relics and ensuring social security.

At the same time, build and develop the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone into a comprehensive, multi-industry, multi-functional coastal economic zone, following the model of green growth, circular economy, and sustainable development.

Focusing on high-tech industry, modern seaport and logistics services, which are the main economic growth drivers of Hai Phong City with synchronous infrastructure, a transparent, open and favorable investment and business environment, including a free trade zone with breakthrough and superior mechanisms and policies being applied in successful free trade zones around the world.

This is also a pioneering marine economic center with a supporting function, connecting with other coastal economic zones, creating development momentum for the Red River Delta region.

3 investment phases in building coastal economic zones

Hai Phong Southern Coastal Economic Zone is developed in 3 phases.

By 2025, a master plan for the economic zone will be prepared and submitted to competent authorities for approval; a functional zoning plan in the economic zone will be prepared and approved, and a number of traffic infrastructure and technical infrastructure projects will be invested in.

In the period from 2026 to 2030, investment will be made in the construction of functional areas in the economic zone and Nam Do Son port projects, urban development projects, technical infrastructure inside and outside the fence of industrial parks, industrial clusters, road traffic projects, social housing and other social infrastructure works.

The remaining investment items will be implemented after 2030.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Hai Phong City People's Committee to ensure the socio-economic efficiency of the economic zone towards sustainable development through solving social security issues and converting jobs for people whose land has been recovered.

Effectively implement environmental protection, prevention and response to natural disasters and impacts of climate change.

Closely monitor sea encroachment, construction investment activities, and waste discharge into the environment in economic zones in accordance with the law on environmental protection and water resources, minimizing negative impacts on the ecosystem and marine environment.
