Previously, on the night of December 9, Mr. NQL and Mr. DNC (residing in Long Dien district) had dinner together at the K snail restaurant.
The meal included dishes such as clams, blood cockles, abalone, grilled sea urchin, beef rolls with enoki mushrooms, and Thai-style shrimp. It was almost 8 p.m. when we finished eating.
At 11pm the same day, Mr. L had symptoms of tooth and mouth numbness, dizziness and was taken to Ba Ria Hospital for emergency care.
Upon admission to the hospital, Mr. L had a severe seizure and had to be admitted to the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department. Mr. L is now out of danger and is receiving activated charcoal.
Mr. C only had a stomachache and vomited. Both cases were diagnosed with poisoning due to eating sea cucumbers, not sea urchins as ordered on the menu at the restaurant.
In fact, recently many people have mistakenly eaten sea cucumber and sea urchin, leading to poisoning and even endangering their lives.
According to the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health), sea urchins contain the extremely toxic substance tetrodotoxin (scientific name is Carcinoscorpius rotunicauda) and look very similar to horseshoe crabs.
