Earlier on the night of December 9th, Mr. NQL and Mr. DNC (residents of Long Dien district) had dinner together at K snail restaurant.
The meal included dishes such as razor clams, blood clams, abalone, grilled horseshoe crab, beef rolls with enoki mushrooms, and shrimp in Thai sauce. We finished eating around 8 PM.
At 11 PM that same day, Mr. L experienced symptoms of numbness and tingling in his mouth, dizziness, and was taken to Ba Ria Hospital for emergency treatment.
Upon admission to the hospital, Mr. L suffered a severe seizure and had to be admitted to the Intensive Care and Toxicology Unit. Currently, Mr. L is out of critical condition and is receiving activated charcoal therapy.
Mr. C, on the other hand, only suffered from stomach pain and vomiting. Both cases were diagnosed as food poisoning due to mistakenly eating sea cucumbers instead of horseshoe crabs as ordered at the restaurant.
In fact, recently many people have mistakenly eaten horseshoe crabs and sea cucumbers, leading to poisoning, and even life-threatening situations.
According to the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ), the horseshoe crab (scientific name Carcinoscorpius rotunicauda), which contains the highly toxic substance tetrodotoxin, looks very similar to a horseshoe crab.
