On February 22, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH-TT&DL) of Quang Nam province - said that Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung signed a decision to include in the list of national intangible cultural heritage two traditional handicrafts including the craft of weaving parasol hammocks in Cu Lao Cham, Tan Hiep commune and the craft of making bamboo and coconut houses in Cam Thanh commune, both in Hoi An city.
The craft of weaving parasol hammocks has existed and developed on Cu Lao Cham Island for many centuries. Not only having a purely material value, parasol hammocks are also closely associated with the formation and development of Cu Lao Cham Island; in which many thoughts and feelings of the islanders are hidden.

The products of the craft are the result of the continuous labor and creativity of the people here. The traditional hammock weaving products of the Cu Lao Cham people are a form of folk culture, contributing to the evidence of the early access and exploitation of forest resources, in order to adapt to the island terrain of the local community.
The craft of weaving parasol hammocks in Cu Lao Cham Island is a traditional craft typical of the locality in particular and of the nation in general. Folk knowledge in exploiting raw materials and weaving parasol hammocks is an important basis to ensure the existence of this traditional craft in Cu Lao Cham, sustainably maintaining the cultural heritage left by our ancestors. Therefore, this is a traditional craft that plays a very important role in the life of the community of Cu Lao Cham residents.
With the bamboo and coconut house making profession in Cam Thanh, Hoi An city reflects the history of formation and development of villages and traditional craft villages and occupations in Cam Thanh commune in particular and the urban - commercial port of Hoi An in general.
With available materials, local people have created knowledge related to processing and assembling bamboo and coconut houses suitable for living conditions and environment.
The way of making bamboo and coconut houses is a unique feature of Hoi An that cannot be found anywhere else. From the design to the technique of processing raw materials, processing and assembling, all demonstrate the creativity, diligence and eagerness to learn of the craftsmen.

At the end of 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committee of Hoi An city to organize an investigation and build a scientific dossier on the intangible cultural heritage of bamboo and coconut house making in Cam Thanh and the hammock weaving craft of Tan Hiep commune.
