Speaking about the deployment of 5G, Mr. Nguyen Phong Nha, Deputy Director of the Department of Telecommunications, said: Vietnam has been testing this service for the past few years. According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, 5G is digital infrastructure, and must be one step ahead to provide accompanying services.

“Currently, traditional telecommunications revenue tends to decrease sharply and OTT services are gradually replacing it. OTT services are developing rapidly, the demand for new services, high quality and speed will be expanded. When the Telecommunications Department consulted, network operators all affirmed their desire to provide 5G services. In the first 2 years of 5G deployment, businesses will deploy 5,000 5G stations in industrial parks and prevent congestion for 4G in densely populated cities. 5G has low latency and high speed, which will help network operators have new business opportunities in industrial parks, opening new spaces to meet the development needs of society,” said Mr. Nha.

Continuing to share about the issue of 5G in Vietnam, Mr. Le Van Tuan, Director of the Radio Frequency Department, said that 5G technology is now more mature than 2-3 years ago. After a period of testing, network operators are ready to provide 5G services and now they are interested in auctioning the spectrum for 5G. The 5G spectrum auction will be held on the afternoon of Friday, March 8. Currently, most countries in the world choose the auction form because the world recognizes this as the most transparent form.

Carriers ready to deploy 5G

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Director of Mobile Center - Viettel Telecom, after experiencing 5G, 100% of users shared the desire for Vietnam to soon deploy 5G so that they can use new technology at higher speeds.

Viettel has tested 5G in most provinces and cities, with more than 1 million experiences. Most customers participating in the experience clearly felt the speed 5G brings.

People's demand for 5G is high, but the number of 5G-supported devices is still low, only about 17-20%.

Faced with this situation, Viettel will prioritize deploying 5G in areas with high demand, with a high rate of 5G-enabled phones. Along with that, in industrial parks, export processing zones, innovation centers...

According to a representative of VNPT, this unit has deployed 5G testing early, present in nearly 20 provinces and cities and appeared at events, festivals, and tourism services. During the testing process, regular customers will feel the change in latency and speed. Currently, about 18% of VNPT users' devices have 5G. The rate of 5G devices will increase very quickly when VNPT officially provides this service.

When balancing factors of market and investment development, the commercialization of 5G in Vietnam has begun to be effective. Therefore, VNPT also expressed its desire to promote the early commercialization of 5G.

MobiFone representative said that currently, this network has about 16-17% of the number of user terminals on the network supporting 5G. MobiFone representative shared the desire to promote the shared use of 5G network infrastructure to shorten the time, investment volume and minimize risks for network operators.
