To be included in the top 25 airlines list, carriers must achieve a seven-star safety rating and demonstrate leadership in innovation to provide passenger comfort.

AirlineRatings.com editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas said “the ratings focus on the innovation by airlines that makes a real difference to the passenger experience”.

Air New Zealand was ranked number one for its cabin innovation with economy beds on its new Boeing 787s, its customer service and its ability to recover quickly from the pandemic.

AirlineRatings.com also named the World's Top 25 Low-Cost Airlines for 2023 as part of its annual Airline Excellence Awards.

The winning airlines in alphabetical order are AirAsia, Allegiant, Bonza, Cebu Pacific, EasyJet, Eurowings, Flair, FlyDubai, Frontier, GOL, Indigo, Jet2, JetBlue, Jetstar, Norse Atlantic, Peach, Ryanair, Scoot, Spirit, Southwest, Transavia, TUI, Vietjet, Vueling, Wizz Air.

“Each of the airlines on the list has a strong safety record and has made a big difference in their respective markets,” said Geoffrey Thomas of Airlineratings.com.

All selected airlines have good safety and incident handling records or have completed International Air Transport Association (IOSA) operational safety audits.

Airlineratings.com is a prestigious airline rating organization in the world, developed to provide comprehensive information related to airlines.

The organization’s system ranks airlines from 1 to 7 stars for safety. The ratings take into account a number of different factors, including audits from aviation regulators, leading associations, and airlines that have safety data. Each airline has a safety rating breakdown so passengers can see exactly how they are ranked.

The list of award winners was drawn from more than 360 airlines listed on Airlineratings.com, which carry 99% of the world's passengers.
