Farmers in many districts are achieving high economic returns from growing melons.

Six districts, towns, and cities are permitted to convert rice-growing land. Kinh Mon town has the largest conversion area in the province with over 80 hectares; Kim Thanh district has over 70.3 hectares; Gia Loc district has 63.3 hectares; Chi Linh city and Binh Giang and Nam Sach districts have between 41-55 hectares each.

The transformation aims to better utilize land advantages, facilitate sustainable agricultural development, and increase income.

In 2023, Hai Duong converted more than 239 hectares of rice land to cultivate vegetables (various types of vegetables and melons, etc.) and fruit trees (Canh oranges, Vinh oranges, pomelos, guavas, etc.), achieving nearly 62% of the plan.

Some localities have achieved high economic efficiency through crop conversion, such as guava cultivation in Binh Giang, Ninh Giang, and Kim Thanh districts, yielding 380-450 million VND/ha; and watermelon, cantaloupe, and winter vegetable cultivation in Nam Sach and Gia Loc districts, yielding 500-550 million VND/ha, 5-6 times higher than rice cultivation (90 million VND/ha/year).
