Two children poisoned by suspected snack food are undergoing dialysis

On the morning of January 18, speaking with reporters of the Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper , Mr. Le Dang Khoa, Director of Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, said that the two children who were hospitalized after eating snacks on January 16 continued to undergo dialysis in critical condition and had to be put on a ventilator.

"Because they are in critical condition, it is difficult to assess. This morning, I updated the health status of the children and their heart rate is stable. Doctors are actively treating them to save them," added Mr. Le Dang Khoa, Director of Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital.

Regarding the sample sent for testing, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital sent the sample for toxicology testing to the Poison Control Center - Bach Mai Hospital, but the results are not yet available.

The reason is that this unit had to send more samples because Bach Mai Hospital transferred them to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine to do some more tests.

Regarding the current situation of food poisoning in children, Mr. Le Dang Khoa said it could be due to poisoning from pesticides, rat poison, etc. However, in this case, the family is also confused because they do not know how the children eat.

Previously, at around 4:00 p.m. on January 14, 2024, 4 children living in Bich Phuong village, Xuan Sinh commune went to Son Pham grocery store (Bich Phuong village) to buy 1 pack of potato chips and 1 pack of Spicy Dragon Straw to eat.

At 5 p.m. the same day, CVT (born in 2014) and D.TC (born in 2018) showed signs of convulsions and gradually fainted. The family took the two children to the District General Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred them to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital for emergency treatment.

It is known that the police have also taken statements from the grocery store owner and collected food samples. After the results of the food samples are available, the next steps will be investigated.
