Why do we need to look up Social Security numbers?

The social insurance number (SIN) is a unique personal identification number issued by the Social Insurance agency to the participant, not duplicated with anyone else.

Social insurance numbers are issued to newborns and children under 6 years old when participating in health insurance and are kept the same throughout the life of the participant in the Social Insurance system in Vietnam.

The Social Insurance Number is used to identify people participating in the Vietnam Social Insurance system; allows people to look up information on participation in social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance; used to register/log in to accounts on the social insurance public service portal or the VssID digital social insurance application.

The social security number is printed on the social security book and health insurance card. However, compared to the citizen identification number, users rarely use the social security number, so not everyone can remember this code of their own.

In case you need to look up your personal social security number, here are two ways to do it right at home via the Internet.

Look up social insurance code by citizen identification number on the website of Vietnam Social Security

Readers can follow the steps below to look up their social insurance number using their ID card or citizen identification number through the website of Vietnam Social Security.

- Visit the website of Vietnam Social Security at https://baohiemxahoi.gov.vn/tracuu/Pages/tra-cuu-ho-gia-dinh.aspx.

- On the website that appears, readers fill in their personal information such as the province or city they live in, citizen identification number, full name... readers only need to fill in information in the fields marked with a red *.

Check the "I'm not a robot" option, select the required images to pass the verification step, then press the "Search" button.

- After clicking the "Search" button, the system will automatically return the social insurance code result table below. The result table includes information such as social insurance code, full name, gender, date of birth, status...

In which, you only need to pay attention to the social security number information in front because this is the information you are looking for.

Look up social insurance code information via VssID application

VssID is an application developed by Vietnam Social Security, allowing users to store and look up information about health insurance cards, medical examination and treatment processes... easily.

After integrating the health insurance card into the VssID application, users only need to bring their smartphone with them every time they go to the doctor or get medical treatment without having to carry a paper health insurance card, helping to store complete information and avoid losing or damaging the paper health insurance card.

To look up information about social insurance codes using the VssID application, readers follow these steps:

- Activate the VssID application on your smartphone. At the login step, the application will ask you to enter your social security number, but because you do not remember this code clearly (the reason is that you need to look up your social security number), you click on the "Log in with electronic identification account" button on the application interface.

The VNeID application interface on your smartphone will be activated. You log in to the VNeID application, and this process will also allow you to log in to the VssID application on your smartphone.

- At the VssID interface that appears, information about the social insurance code will be listed in full. You save this code so you can use it when needed.

Above are two ways to quickly look up each individual's social security number. Users can do this via personal computers or smartphones, as long as the device has an Internet connection.
